Concocting infinite variety of colour dyes from leftover vegetables Applied Science graduate Eric Cheung uses his self-developed skills in dye extraction from leftover vegetables in a wide range of applications. From a $200 investment in a flea market to having a studio at PMQ, Eric has now become a 'food designer'. Where did his idea of making good use of leftover vegetables come from?

From engineer to life mentor

Formerly a medical equipment engineer, Dr Hung quitted his job decisively ten years ago to start teaching at the OUHK with the aim of nurturing young people. With his vivaciously refreshing teaching methods, he helps students acquire knowledge and prepare for career development. He also pays much attention to the personal growth of his students. To them, Dr Hung is a teacher, a companion and a life mentor.

Legendary singer and actress Rebecca Pan Di-hua was invited by the OUHK Tin Ka Ping Centre of Chinese Culture to speak on Chinese songs with English lyrics on 20 October. Illustrating with some of her famous songs, the diva guided the audience through contemporary music and movies.

Private practice ophthalmologists Dr Chow Pak-chin gave a lecture for the Great Speakers Series on 31 October, introducing the latest findings on the causes, prevention methods and treatment surgery of cataract, as well as exploring the possibility of eliminating cataract blindness.

The University received a total funding of about HK$13 million from the Research Grants Council for 11 projects, which is the highest among all 13 eligible self-financing institutions. It is also the only institution that has successfully obtained funding from the Institutional Development Scheme (IDS) in five consecutive years, and has received more than HK$10 million among all self-financing institutions this year.
