Footprints of two generations – the story of the Laus

Lau Kim-man and his son Edison Lau experienced rather different learning journeys at the OUHK. They have also witnessed the development of the University over the past three decades. After graduation, the father-son duo has stayed connected with their alma mater in different roles as a core member of an alumni group and a lecturer of the University, passing on the torch to the new generation.

Recaps

On 10 November, the University held its Honorary Degrees Ceremony 2020 to confer Honorary Doctorates on four distinguished persons in recognition of their important contributions to the society. The recipients are the Life Honorary Chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce of Hong Kong Dr Jonathan Choi Koon-shum, professional accountant Mrs Nellie Fong Wong Kut-man, orthopedic specialist Dr Ko Wing-man, and renowned scientist Prof. Xu Yangsheng.

On 19 December 2020, more than 30 mainland graduates of the Master's programme organized a graduation party. They have presented a couplet to commemorate graduation and invited President Prof. Yuk-Shan Wong and Provost Prof. Reggie Kwan Ching-ping to join online.

The 28th and 29th Graduation Ceremony have been concluded in December. How far did you know about the history of the OUHK congregation? In November 1993, the former Open Learning Institute of Hong Kong (OLI) held its first Congregation at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. A total of 161 graduates were presented degrees and their names were published in the Jan 1994 issue of Openlink.
