Collaboration with School of Education and Languages (E&L): Cultural Integration & Learning Adjustment Service

Meaningful partnership between Student Affairs educator and faculty member from of Education and Languages (E&L) were established in spring 2023 to enhance students' learning experience and foster their community engagement.

  • This is the first time for Student Affairs Office (SAO) to collaborate with academic unit to facilitate the holistic development of students by extending their learning experience from classroom-based curriculum to service practicum.
  • E&L students have to utilize academic knowledge and skills to design, prepare and execute educational service plans based on the needs of primary students for their learning adjustment and transition from primary to secondary education.

  • A briefing session for E&L students has been organized by SAO Service-learning team, for students to know more about service-learning in HKMU and the learning objectives of the service project collaborated with YWCA on 31 May 2023.

  • An advising on students' proposals and communication workshop was also organized and delivered by SAO Service-learning team, for students to equip their event organization skills and learn the tips of engaging primary students in June.

  • In summer 2023, 28 E&L students with diverse cultural background designed and delivered 12 cultural integration and learning adjustment lessons and activities for 30 local Chinese primary school students on topics related to multi-cultures in Hong Kong, food cultures, festivals and minorities languages.

  • The Cultural Integration & Learning Adjustment Service has a significant positive effect for the primary six children and the E&L students. The educational and inter-cultural activities can benefit to their English language, social and communication development, as well as provide an opportunity for E&L students to connect their academic study with the real world and foster their understanding of social issues and diverse cultures.
