HKMU presents Honorary University Fellowships to four outstanding individuals

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) will award honorary fellowships to four distinguished persons in recognition of their outstanding achievements in their respective fields and exceptional contribution to society.
The recipients are Mr Anthony Chan Tung-shan, Mr Choi Pat-tai, Ms Jasmine Lee Shun-yi and Mr Wai Ka-fai. The conferment ceremony will be held on 4 October (Friday).
Following are brief profiles of the four recipients:
Mr Anthony Chan Tung-shan, MH
Mr Anthony Chan Tung-shan is a highly accomplished administrator, with extensive experience in public administration and project management, the majority of which is in the education field.
Since joining the Civil Service in 1973, Mr Chan has held prominent positions in various policy bureaux and offices of the Government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), including the Civil Service Bureau, Education Bureau, Security Bureau, Housing and Trade Departments, and University Grants Committee. He is currently a member of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ).
In 2018, Mr Chan was appointed by the Government as a Council member of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU). His six years of service saw him actively participating in the University's Finance Committee, Human Resources Committee, and Main Tender Board. In June 2023, he became Chairman of the Human Resources Committee and joined the Executive Committee. Mr Chan’s dedication to improving the institutional governance, and his profound knowledge of policy development, made him an invaluable asset to the University.
Mr Chan was awarded the Medal of Honour by the HKSAR Government in 2024 for his contributions to the development of the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework and self-financing post-secondary education in Hong Kong.
Mr Choi Pat-tai, MH
Mr Choi Pat-tai is the President of Pak Shing Travel Co. Ltd, and a greatly respected figure in the travel industry of Hong Kong. In 1979, he established Pak Shing Travel Co. Ltd, which specialises in inbound travel for Japanese travellers. The company has received awards from the China National Tourism Administration, Hong Kong Tourism Board, Japan Foreign Affairs Office and Prime Minister of Japan for its service excellence.
Mr Choi's remarkable achievements in the tourism industry are complemented by his unwavering commitment to philanthropy and community service. He was Chairman of the Lions Nature Education Foundation, Chairman of the Lions Kidney Educational Centre and Research Foundation, and the 31st Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yan Chai Hospital. Currently, he is a member of the hospital's Advisory Board.
Since 2015, Mr Choi has been serving as an honorary advisor to the HKMU Li Ka Shing School of Professional and Continuing Education. His steadfast support, in particular to the School's Japanese Language and Cultural Studies Centre, has helped to advance the development of vocational and professional education and training.
Mr Choi was awarded the Medal of Honour by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in 2000. He received the Japanese Foreign Minister's Commendation in 2012, and the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays from the Prime Minister of Japan in 2016. Mr Choi was also a recipient of the Presidential Award of Lions International in 1989.
Ms Jasmine Lee Shun-yi
Ms Jasmine Lee Shun-yi, Managing Partner of EY Hong Kong and Macao and a committed professional in the field of accounting, has worked ardently to advance the development of the professional services of the industry, and champion greater integration and cooperation within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).
With nearly 30 years of experience in the profession, Ms Lee has strived to promote talent mobility and business connectivity within the GBA. She has led many significant business enhancement efforts for major companies and financial institutions in Hong Kong and Macao, particularly those with substantial exposure to the mainland China market.
Championing synergy between corporations and academia, she is a valued partner and benefactor of the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration (B&A) of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU). Since 2021, she has been serving as a professional mentor in B&A's A-Team Student Development Programme, providing invaluable guidance and support to business students. She also takes an active part in HKMU's academic exchange activities.
She was elected a Council member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) in 2021 and became an elected member again with the highest number of votes in 2023. Furthermore, Ms Lee is currently a Council member of the Hong Kong Management Association, the Vice-President & Honorary Secretary of the Association of Women Accountants and the co-chairperson of the Association's Mainland Affairs Committee, and a Council member of the Hong Kong Association of Registered Public Interest Entity Auditors Limited and SMART Accountants Association. She is the Chairman of the Professional Accounting Sector of the GBA Economic and Trade Association. Ms Lee is also an active member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for Emerging Market Studies at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and China Committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.
Mr Wai Ka-fai
Mr Wai Ka-fai is a renowned Hong Kong film maker, with a prolific career showcasing exceptional talent in storytelling and genre redefinition.
His work at TVB included critically acclaimed series such as Police Cadet’ 84, The Feud of Two Brothers and The Final Verdict. Looking Back in Anger became the most watched series among Chinese people around the world then, and The Greed of Man is considered a Hong Kong classic.
Over the last three decades, Mr Wai has worked as director, screenwriter or producer on more than 30 movies, garnering film awards both locally and internationally. Notably, he received the 2004 Hong Kong Film Award for Best Film and Best Screenplay for Running on Karma, the 2008 Hong Kong Film Award for Best Screenplay for Mad Detective, and the 2023 Hong Kong Film Award for Best Director and Best Screenplay for Detective vs Sleuths. Mad Detective was also the Best Screenplay at the 2008 Asian Film Awards. Additionally, he has won the Best Screenplay award from the Hong Kong Film Critics Society seven times between 2003 and 2022.
Mr Wai was invited to deliver a post-screening talk for the Film and Life Series organised by the School of Arts and Social Sciences of Hong Kong Metropolitan University last year. He shared his religious experiences and insights on creative writing, which captivated an audience of over 200.
