HKMU students revitalise Xu Beihong's ink-wash paintings with digital art to welcome the Year of the Horse

To celebrate the Year of the Horse, a student team from the School of Arts and Social Sciences (A&SS) at Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) was invited by Sino Group to contribute to the production of the world's first naked-eye 3D animation of Xu Beihong's famous ink-wash painting, Six Galloping Horses....

HKMU presents “Resplendent Attire and Graceful Demeanor”: Cantonese opera costumes exhibition

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) is staging “Resplendent Attire and Graceful Demeanor: The Cantonese Opera Costume Exhibition” at the Ho Sik Yee Library on the Jockey Club Campus starting today (3 February). The exhibition showcases a collection of rare and exquisite Cantonese opera costumes, including key pieces worn by the legendary “Queen of Huadan”, Dr Fong Yim-fun; the late renowned artist Dr Lam Kar-sing; and the late “Artistic Huadan Queen”, Ms Chan Ho-kau. Members of the public are invited to view the craftsmanship and design of these classic costumes up close, with the aim of fostering interest in Cantonese opera culture and passing on this intangible cultural heritage....

New work by School of Arts and Social Sciences scholar shortlisted for Literary Prize

Dr Shawn Shao Dong, Acting Head of the Department of Creative Arts and Assistant Professor in the School of Arts and Social Sciences at Hong Kong Metropolitan University, has been shortlisted for the final selection of the “Blancpain-Imaginist Literary Prize 2025” with his newly published short story collection, The Unlocked Man. This marks the second time he has been shortlisted for the prize, following the inclusion of his debut short story collection, Air Guitar, on the final shortlist in 2023....

HKMU launches the Museum of Modern Chinese Literature & the “Beyond Distance: Half a Lifelong Friendship of Eileen Chang, Stephen Soong, and Mae Fong Soong” Exhibition — A new chapter in literary heritage with free public guided tours by appointment

Today, 20 November, Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) launched the Museum of Modern Chinese Literature (“the Museum”), located in its campus library, and presented the inaugural exhibition “Beyond Distance: Half a Lifelong Friendship of Eileen Chang, Stephen Soong, and Mae Fong Soong”. The exhibition features more than 120 precious manuscripts and relics from renowned Chinese writer Eileen Chang and her close friends, Stephen Soong and Mae Fong Soong. The museum is now open to the public, offering free guided tours by appointment. This marks a significant milestone for HKMU in the research and preservation of modern Chinese literature and demonstrates the University's steadfast commitment to safeguarding Chinese cultural heritage....

HKMU's Inaugural World University Animation Awards Ceremony gathers global animation elites and ignites creative possibilities

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) is dedicated to advancing creative arts education, providing an international platform for animation talent to connect and exchange ideas, unlocking boundless opportunities in the creative industries, and contributing to Hong Kong's development as a vibrant East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange. Successful public lecture: “Destined by Letters: The Preservation and Legacy of Eileen Chang, Stephen Soong and Mae Fong Soong's Manuscripts and Relics”

Jointly organised by the Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) Library, the School of Arts and Social Sciences (A&SS) and the Tin Ka Ping Centre of Chinese Culture (TKPCCC), and co-organised by the Hong Kong Library Association (HKLA) and the Hong Kong Archives Society (HKAS), the public lecture titled “Destined by Letters: The Preservation and Legacy of Eileen Chang, Stephen Soong and Mae Fong Soong's Manuscripts and Relics” was successfully held on 28 June. A selection of precious manuscripts and personal items from the three literary figures were exhibited at the event, which attracted approximately 100 attendees. The talk was part of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council's “Cultural July” programme....
