Science and Technology students from HKMU won the championship at the IOT Data Hackathon 2026, along with three other major awards, demonstrating their excellence in applying their knowledge of data science and AI to innovative solutions for industry.

Organised by GS1 Hong Kong, the IOT Data Hackathon is a flagship competition that brings together tertiary students, innovators and industry professionals, challenging them to address real‑world business and societal issues through the innovative use of IoT data and artificial intelligence (AI), with a strong emphasis on digital transformation and sustainability.

The contest was co‑organised by Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and was supported by the Digital Policy Office.

The six-member winning team from HKMU, called the De‑Buggers, responded to a challenge set by Cobalt Fashion (Hong Kong). They developed an integrated AI solution, titled “Supply Chain System: From Predicting Risks to Automated Responses”, which integrates container, order, and warehouse data into a dashboard, combined with real-time weather information and shipping news, enabling instant visibility of critical risks and informed decision making. It is expected to significantly enhance supply‑chain visibility and operational efficiency.

In addition to winning the championship, the team received three other awards: Best Use of AI, Best ESG Achievement, and Innovator of Secure by Design. This marks best results ever achieved by a team since the competition was launched in 2024.

The De-Buggers team members are Lau Suet-lam (team leader), Po Chun-sing, Teresa Li, Andy Li and Jasmine Sylvia Man Suk-ying, who are studying Data Science & Artificial Intelligence, and Fung Wing-kei, who is studying Computer Science.
