Campus development and facilities

The campuses of the University have been gradually and incrementally expanded since the launch of face-to-face programmes in the early 2000s. The University is also always on the lookout for innovative ideas to expand the campuses and improve space utilisation.

Our focus on the development of professional, career-oriented programmes has inevitably led to greater demand for physical resources — laboratory and teaching space, in particular. At the same time, the University is expected to allocate more learning space for co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, as they are an integral part of modern-day university education.

As new programmes are conceived, we are planning ahead for additional space requirements and examining how our existing space can be rearranged and optimised to satisfy additional demands.

We are mindful of the challenges presented by our ageing buildings and facilities. During the refurbishment of the campus infrastructure, we will take the opportunity to introduce the latest equipment and facilities that are commensurate with contemporary teaching and learning pedagogy.

Commitments

We are committed to:

40

securing new sites for campus development;

41

further optimising the use of space;

42

upgrading our green campuses, focusing on smart, innovative solutions, sustainability and social responsibility; and

43

enhancing the campus infrastructure and facilities.

Student amenities and hostels

One challenge for HKMU is the quest for student accommodation and amenities. Gradually, we will allocate more space for student amenities and activities, including sports and recreational activities.

We expect hostel life to be an important element of the university experience. The University is taking on the challenge of developing student hostels on a limited scale over the next few years.

Commitments

We are committed to:

44

increasing the amount of space for student amenities and activities; and

45

investigating various options for student accommodation.
