STRATEGIC PLAN

2024-2028

Extending the Horizon

Foreword

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) is in its fourth decade as a major provider of quality university education in Hong Kong.  Successive strategic plans over the past 30 years have guided us to become a thriving, modern comprehensive university, focusing on professional programmes that track market trends, meet industry needs, and provide clear career paths for our students.

We consider strategic planning to be an ongoing process. We gather and consider the views of our stakeholders on the future of the University from time to time. The Strategic Plan 2024-2028 (the “Plan”) is the result of the collective effort and wisdom of members of the University, including student and alumni communities, academic and administrative staff, and members of the administration, Council and Court. The Plan reinforces our belief that the objective of the University is to provide all-round education for our students to enable them to pursue fulfilling careers and become good citizens.

The world is in a new era in the aftermath of the pandemic, with the accelerated adoption of, and reliance on, new technologies facilitating the new economy. This has changed the way in which we live, work, interact and do business. These changes present challenges and opportunities. As a university, we must do our part to fine-tune the curriculum to prepare our students to adapt to the new normal when they join the workforce. Relevant strategies are covered in the Plan.

With six strategic themes and 54 commitments, the Plan is broad in scope and ambitious in places. It sets clear priorities to take the University to new horizons. We will continue to be vigilant and adapt to changes in the higher-education landscape and the employment market, without losing sight of our priorities and goals.
