Training Curriculum

This course aims to empower students who are motivated by the perspective of a sustainable world and aspire to be climate advocates against the climate emergency. Participants will learn from leaders, experts and youth advocates from Hong Kong and overseas and will gain valuable and relevant climate advocacy skills.


Programme Highlights:

  • Year-Round Mentoring:
    Participants will receive ongoing support and guidance from experienced mentors to enhance expertise, abilities, and connections
  • Community Engagement Opportunities:
    Participants will have the chance to actively engage with their communities through the organisation of impactful projects. They will also have the platform to advocate their innovative ideas directly to policy makers, enabling them to contribute their perspectives and influence climate-related policies and decisions.
  • Global and Regional Engagement:
    Participants will have the opportunity to engage in global and regional climate forums, such as COP31 and Asia Pacific Climate Week, gain valuable insights into diverse perspectives, explore global best practices in climate advocacy, and build international networks with climate leaders and like-minded individuals.

Introduction of

Climate Advocacy

and Community

Project

• Understanding climate advocacy, including its principles, strategies, target audiences and framing issues

• Overview of the process of planning and executing advocacy campaigns,

including setting goals, identifying stakeholders, mobilising support, and

evaluating impact

• Discussion on how young people can take local action to raise public awareness and drive behavioural and policy changes

• Workshop: Community project brainstorming

• The role and methods of research in climate advocacy campaigning

Module 4: Advocacy Skills: Communicating advocacy messages

• Forms of communication

• Workshop: Delivering advocacy messages in various online and in-person platforms

Climate Negotiation Skill

• Participatory role-playing exercise, experiencing the roles of national and sectoral negotiators to experience the dynamics between countries during a simulated COP negotiation process

• Participate in discussions and negotiations to understand the complexities of reaching consensus on climate-related issues
