INTRODUCTION

HKMU Career Check-in” is a new career initiative for our students starting from Summer AY2023/24. HKMU alumni from various industries and backgrounds will be invited as our guest speakers and facilitators. By participating in diverse activities with different themes, our students will not only be able to connect with industry professionals but also explore their personal potential and career interests through the session.

Turning Waste into Treasure - Transforming Food Waste into Eco-Friendly tie-dyed! Starting an Entrepreneurial Career from University

Join us for a dynamic workshop featuring career and entrepreneurship sharing by our HKMU alumnus Mr. Eric Cheung. With his successful journey in transforming food waste into natural dyes, Mr. Cheung will provide invaluable insights into building a sustainable business.

In addition to these inspiring discussions, participants will have the opportunity to engage in a hands-on dyeing workshop, where they will learn how to create beautiful, eco-friendly tie-dyed fabrics from food waste.

EVENT DETAILS​

Date: 8 Feb 2025 (Saturday)
Time: 2:00pm – 6:00pm*
* Students are required to arrive at least 15 minutes early at the venue for the attendance check.
Venue: Dyelicious (L0-04, G/F, JCCAC, 30 Pak Tin St, Shek Kip Mei, Kowloon)
Alumni Speaker and Event Facilitator:  Mr. Eric CHEUNG (S&T Alumnus)
Quota: 30
Target Students:
  1. HKMU Full time undergraduates in all disciplines and years are welcome 
  2. Students who are eager to explore personal potentials and career interests
  3. Proficient in Chinese (Medium of instruction: Cantonese)
Event Fee: Free of charge
Deposit: HKD $200 (For those students who have attended the workshop successfully or have not received confirmation of registration, refund will also be arranged within one month after the workshop. The deposit will be forfeited if students receive a confirmation email but are absent without a valid reason.)

APPLICATION DETAILS​

Step 1) HKMU undergraduates in all disciplines and years are welcome! Interested students, please complete the application form by 21 Jan 2025. *Confirmation emails will be sent to successful applicants on or before 24 Jan 2025.
Step 2) Students are required to submit a deposit (HKD $200) to the designated university bank account when submitting the application. The deposit will be refunded one month after the completion of the entire event.

About the guest speaker​

Alumnus Mr. Eric Cheung obtained a Bachelor's degree in Applied Science (Energy and Environment) ten years ago. Since graduating, he has been experimenting with turning food waste into natural dyes, a passion he began during his university years. He has applied his self-developed skills in dye extraction from leftover vegetables across various applications, contributing to a greener world.
