The Council of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) approved the re-appointment of Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing as President for a period of four years effective from 1 April 2025.

The Council established the Committee on Re-appointment of the President (CRP) in December 2023 to commence the related preparatory work and conduct an extensive consultation with different stakeholders, including the Council, staff, student representatives and representatives of HKMU Foundation Advisory Committee and HKMU Alumni Association, etc. After consolidating the views and feedback from the stakeholders, the CRP made a recommendation to the Council. Upon thorough consideration and discussion, the Council approved the re-appointment of Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing as the President of HKMU.

HKMU Council Chairman Ir Dr Conrad Wong Tin-cheung extended his congratulations to Prof. Lam on his re-appointment, and commended him for his exceptional contribution to HKMU. He said, “During his tenure, Prof. Lam has successfully steered the University forward and accomplished the retitling of the University. Under his able leadership, HKMU has scaled unprecedented heights on various fronts, including enriching programme portfolio to fulfil the societal demands and making great strides in research development. In addition, the admission of HKMU to Shenzhen Virtual University Park facilitates the University to promote the collaboration between the Mainland and Hong Kong in the areas of research and education. On campus development, HKMU was granted the approval by the Town Planning Board to construct a new campus on a site in Ho Man Tin, which enables the University to enhance the campus environment and facilities to support its expansion and the whole-person development of students. Thanks to Prof. Lam's guidance, HKMU obtained the approval from the Education Bureau recently for becoming Hong Kong's first University of Applied Sciences, which is a testament to the University's outstanding achievements in promoting quality education in Hong Kong as well as a recognition of the University's unique position in bringing positive impacts on both the academic community and society.”

Prof. Lam expressed his heartfelt gratitude for his re-appointment for another four-year term. He said, “I sincerely thank the Council for its recognition and unwavering support. I am committed to making my utmost efforts, alongside members of the HKMU Community, to take the University to new heights. We will continue to provide our students with top-drawer education to nurture competent professionals to sustain the social and economic development of Hong Kong and our nation”.
