Public speaking is a powerful skill that entails self-confidence, excellent language abilities, effective communication and logical thinking. HKMU is home to two Toastmasters Clubs that offer students opportunities to train up as successful public speakers by participating in speech contests. Recently, some of their members have outshone fellow speakers from other Toastmasters Clubs.

Two members of the HKMU Trilingual Toastmasters Club, a body of the School of Education and Languages and Hong Kong's first university trilingual Toastmasters Club, went up to division contests and came away with prizes. Coming out on top in the Area O2 contests, Andre Yuen Sing-yui and Kris Lam Hoi-ching went on to grab the third and second places in the Table Topics and Mandarin Speech contests of the Division O round respectively.

Members of the HKMU A&SS Toastmasters Club under the School of Arts and Social Sciences also delivered strong performance. In the Area H3 and H4 contests, Jason Mi Kung-chun was second runner-up in Table Topics, while Jevin Thapa was placed third in both Prepared Speech and Evaluation Speech.

In addition, the A&SS Toastmasters Club has achieved the Distinguished Club designation for the 2022–2023 programme year from Toastmasters International. This shows that club members have worked hard to meet the objectives of the Distinguished Club Program, offering a supportive and positive learning environment for each other in accordance with the Toastmasters International mission. The HKMU Trilingual Toastmasters Club has also attained this designation earlier.

Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organisation that trains public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs. It organises speech contests every year to empower individuals to become effective communicators and leaders. District 89 covers Hong Kong, Macau, Fujian, Hainan and part of Guangdong, China. The HKMU Trilingual Toastmasters Club and HKMU A&SS Toastmasters Club are part of Divisions O and H respectively.
