Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) welcomes the reappointment of Ir Dr Conrad Wong Tin-cheung as Chairman of the Council, Mr Henry Tong Sau-chai as Deputy Chairman, and Mr Arnold Cheng Ka-kui as Treasurer by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Their appointments will take effect on 20 June 2025 for a three-year term.

Dr Wong said he was honoured by the reappointment and pledged to continue to collaborate with Council Members, the University's senior management, and the whole HKMU community to advance the University's development, contributing to Hong Kong and the country. “Over the past three years, HKMU has achieved significant milestones through our collective efforts, including its designation as Hong Kong's first university of applied sciences and its campus expansion through innovative initiatives, such as acquiring a hotel for student accommodation and a commercial building for teaching facilities in response to growing enrolment and programme expansion,” he said. “I look forward to continuing our joint efforts with the HKMU team and the community to nurture talent for Hong Kong and the country.”

Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing, HKMU President, said he looked forward to further elevating HKMU's influence in higher education under the Council's leadership. “Under Dr Wong's leadership, the University has implemented forward-looking initiatives, including the launch of the HK$50 million 'HKMU Startup Fund' to support students, faculty and alumni in developing entrepreneurship and startup ventures, and the 'University-wide Mental Health Promotion Scheme', whose aim is to raise awareness of mental health among faculty and students. HKMU is the first university in Hong Kong to introduce such an initiative,” he said. “With Dr Wong and the Council's guidance, I am confident that HKMU will reach new heights in teaching, research and talent cultivation.”

Dr Wong joined the University Council in 2019 as Deputy Chairman and has served as Chairman since 2022. He is a seasoned leader in the construction industry and has wide experience and exposure in higher education, public service and the business sector.

Additionally, current Council Members Ir Prof. Alan Lam Hiu-fung, Mr Bosco Law Ching-kit and Mr Yu Chung-leung have been reappointed, and Mr Simon Tso and Ms Catrina Lam Ding-wan, SC, are newly appointed members to the University Council. These reappointments and new appointments will also take effect on 20 June for a three-year term. HKMU welcomes these appointments and reappointments and looks forward to the Council's continued guidance in furthering the University's contribution to Hong Kong and the country.

Prof. Lam also expressed his heartfelt gratitude to outgoing Council Member Ms Catherine Mun Lee-ming for her years of dedicated service and invaluable advice in supporting the University's development.
