Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) is pleased that the HKSAR Government has obtained the agreement of the Ministry of Education (MoE) to progressively relax the quota for the admission of Mainland, Macao and Taiwan (MMT) students to self-financing institutions. The University welcomes this timely and flexible arrangement and expresses its gratitude to the MoE and the HKSAR Government for their support for the steady development of self-financing post-secondary education in Hong Kong.

HKMU has already reached the 20% quota for MMT students, and the number is on an upward trend. Therefore, the University will submit the related report to the Education Bureau with the aim of increasing the quota for the 2025/26 Academic Year. The University will balance campus and facilities planning, teacher qualifications and teaching support to provide students with high-quality professional education.

With the rapid development of the University, including the continued growth in the number of students, faculty and staff, HKMU is actively planning the construction of a new campus on a slope site at the junction of Sheung Shing Street and Fat Kwong Street in Ho Man Tin. The University will apply for interest-free loans under the new round of the Government's Start-up Loan Scheme, with the new campus targeted for completion and open for use in 2028. Additionally, to accommodate more non-local students, researchers and visiting scholars, the University acquired a hotel near the campus last year to serve as student accommodation which is now renamed MU88, and purchased the Cheung Kei Center in Hung Hom recently, which has a total gross floor area of approximately 280,000 square feet. These facilities will provide HKMU students and staff with more and enhanced space for learning, teaching and research, supporting the University's long-term development.

To help non-local students integrate into the campus environment and life in Hong Kong, HKMU's schools and departments have been providing comprehensive support. In addition to recruiting Mainland students, HKMU has actively expanded its outreach in recent years, promoting the University in different countries. In the coming year, the University will continue its promotional and recruitment efforts in the Mainland, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and other Belt and Road countries.

HKMU believes that these campus-development plans, along with its initiatives to attract and support non-local students, will help the University recruit more outstanding students from around the world. At the same time, the University is committed to nurturing local talent, contributing to social and economic development, and supporting Hong Kong's growth as an international post-secondary education hub and an international hub for high-calibre talent.
