Hong Kong Metropolitan University (“HKMU”) and the Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd. (“KMB’) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) on 5 May (Today) to launch an internship programme for HKMU students studying in different disciplines. The collaboration between KMB and HKMU by providing internship opportunities to HKMU students in various aspects, including short-term career-oriented courses/workshops, helps students equip themselves for future development.

Under the MOU, KMB will provide internship opportunities and short-term career-oriented courses/workshops to HKMU full-time students in the 2022 summer. The short-term career-oriented courses and workshops cover various topics, including documentation requirements and practical use of English in a listed company, legal aspects of vocational rehabilitation, and foundation courses in bus mechanical engineering. These aim to widen students' understanding of business operations and public institutions. KMB will also provide internship opportunities such as video production, and marketing to help youngsters develop practical on-the-job experience before entering the workplace.

Steve Hui, Administration Director of KMB, said that KMB spares no effort in nurturing talents, especially the new generation. “We are delighted to cooperate with Hong Kong Metropolitan University and believe that KMB can share practical working experience to help students identify their strengths and potential in the real-life working environment.” KMB looks forward to cooperating closely with academia to nurture more talents.

HKMU President Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing expressed his sincere thanks to KMB for its support for the University. “I am delighted that KMB has partnered with HKMU for the first time to provide our students with the opportunity to participate in KMB’s diversified workplace training, including dialogue with management.”

“Graduates entering job market have faced a lot of challenges because of the pandemic in the past two years,” he said. “This collaboration allows our students to broaden their horizons and prepare for their future careers. I look forward to more collaboration opportunities between us in the future.”

About HKMU:
Established by the Government in 1989, Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), formerly The Open University of Hong Kong, is the largest self-financed university in Hong Kong. In addition to offering full-time undergraduate, taught postgraduate, and research postgraduate programmes, HKMU provides distance education for aspiring learners and is committed to promoting research. Through its seven Schools, HKMU offers professional programmes tailored to society's needs, including areas in high demand, such as nursing, physiotherapy, creative arts, testing and certification, early childhood education, and corporate governance. HKMU's efforts and achievements in providing professional education are evidenced by the largest share of subsidized places under the Government's Study Subsidy Scheme for Designated Professions and Sectors (SSSDP) in Hong Kong.

About KMB:
KMB has dedicated to providing safe, reliable, high quality, environment-friendly and value-for-money bus services, with a fleet of around 4,000 buses, operating more than 400 routes and serving some million passenger trips each day. KMB has set up the KMB Academy with the motto “Mission Safety∙Act with Self-discipline” early this year for nurturing talents and the new generation. The Academy emphasises the pivotal role of safety and discipline in the industry. Both training courses for franchised bus maintenance personnel and bus captains are accredited by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications. These make KMB a talent incubator in the transport industry for the benefit of the whole sector.
