Alumna Sabrina Tse Shuk-fun adapted a novel she wrote into a film, serving as both producer and screenwriter. The film, True Love, for Once in My Life, was shortlisted in the Hidden Dragon section of the 8th Pingyao Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon International Film Festival. It was also selected as one of the films in the “Made in HK” section of the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival 2024 and as the opening film at the Hong Kong Film Gala Presentation in Dubai.
Sabrina has completed a Bachelor of Business Administration degree as well as two master's degrees: a Master of Corporate Governance and a Master of Business Administration from HKMU. To pursue her dream of making a film, she returned to campus in 2016 and enrolled in the Professional Certificate in Screenwriting for Film programme, co-launched by LiPACE and the Hong Kong Screenwriters' Guild, to learn the art of screenplay writing. During the programme, Sabrina met three course instructors who later became her mentors in writing and producing her film.
The film, True Love, for Once in My Life, tells the story of a couple whose marriage falters when the husband pursues a career in mainland China. After many years, the wife finally comes to terms with their separation and moves on following her retirement. However, her new life is shattered by the news of her ex-husband's serious illness. The film explores love and traditional marriage by tracing the lifelong relationship between two lovers who aren’t necessarily meant to be together.
The film held five consecutive preview screenings at Golden Scene Cinema in December 2024 and was officially released in early 2025. The HKMU Alumni Association also organised a film screening for students and alumni on 12 April, with Sabrina, director Siu Koon-ho and co-screenwriter Lou Shiu-Wa invited to share their experience of producing the film.
