Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) is dedicated to expanding global academic collaboration and actively forging close partnerships with educational institutions and enterprises around the world. Through a variety of strategies, HKMU aims to attract non-local students to study in Hong Kong, advancing university internationalisation and supporting Hong Kong's development as an international post-secondary education hub.
As the first university of applied sciences in Hong Kong, HKMU participated last week in the APAIE 2026 Conference and Exhibition. Recognised as one of the world's top three international education events, the conference brought together higher education leaders from across the globe. HKMU hosted a booth to introduce its educational mission and vision, applied sciences education and unique strengths to over 3,000 education leaders, experts and scholars from around the world, actively responding to and promoting the “Study in Hong Kong” brand.
During the five-day exhibition, HKMU met with nearly 100 institutions and organisations to explore collaboration opportunities in areas such as student internships and industry-academia partnerships, fostering international experience sharing and cooperation, and laying the foundation for closer future partnerships. Dr Choi Yuk-lin, Secretary for Education, visited the HKMU booth and exchanged views with HKMU President Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing and Vice President (Strategic Planning) Prof. Alan Au Kai-ming. They also interacted with representatives from other local and international institutions, enhancing mutual understanding.
A key highlight of the exhibition was an expo theatre session delivered by Prof. Matthew Lee Kwok-on, Acting Dean of the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration. Focusing on university internationalisation, he shared insights on HKMU's related strategies and experience as a self-financing institution. The session attracted nearly 60 representatives from local and overseas institutions and enterprises for discussions on the opportunities and future directions for international higher education.
To further strengthen ties with global education partners, the University hosted a Partners Day last Monday, inviting existing and potential collaborators to explore new opportunities. The event brought together 28 representatives from 19 overseas institutions across nine countries. Through University's introduction, campus tours, student sharing sessions and networking sessions with international students and School representatives, participants gained first-hand exposure to HKMU's teaching and research environment, student life and international character.
