Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) is delighted to announce a new collaboration with the University of Sussex (Sussex) in the United Kingdom, establishing a dual degree pathway for HKMU undergraduates. This initiative marks a milestone in HKMU's efforts to expand its international partnerships, providing students with globally competitive education and enriching their learning experiences with meaningful mobility opportunities.
Starting in the 2026/27 academic year, HKMU students studying the Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours in Global Business will have the opportunity to pursue a structured dual degree pathway. Eligible students will complete their first three years at HKMU before undertaking their final year at Sussex. Upon successful completion of the required credits at both institutions, graduates will be awarded two qualifications: a Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours in Global Business from HKMU and a Bachelor of Science in International Business from Sussex.
Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing, HKMU President, highlighted this collaboration as a testament to the University's commitment to internationalisation and student success. “By bridging our curriculum with that of the University of Sussex, we are empowering our students to broaden their academic horizons while equipping them with the global mindset and competitive advantage required to thrive in an increasingly complex professional landscape,” he said.
Strengthening academic ties
The establishment of this dual degree pathway is the result of sustained high-level engagement between the two universities. In November last year, Prof. Lam and Prof. Alan Au Kai-ming, HKMU Vice President (Strategic Initiatives), visited the University of Sussex to discuss opportunities for academic collaboration. During the visit, they met with Sussex senior leadership, including Prof. Robin Banerjee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Global and Civic Engagement), and Prof. Ingrid Woolard, Executive Dean of the Business School. These exchanges were instrumental in laying the groundwork for not only the development of this dual degree pathway, but also for future collaborative initiatives in student and staff mobility.
As the first university of applied sciences in Hong Kong, HKMU continues to pioneer education that addresses society's evolving needs. Recognising cross-cultural agility as essential for cultivating future-ready talent, the University has actively expanded its global network to provide meaningful overseas learning opportunities for its students. This dual degree pathway reinforces HKMU's commitment to fostering talent with the practical skills and international exposure necessary to thrive in today's interconnected world.
