A delegation Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), led by President Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing, visited Beijing from 7 to 9 July. The delegation met with representatives from the Ministry of Education, the Higher Education Press, Beijing Sport University, Capital University of Physical Education and Sports, and the Peking University School of Nursing, aiming to deepen academic exchanges and collaboration with mainland universities and education-related institutions, while also exploring new opportunities for synergistic development.

The HKMU delegation included Prof. Ricky Kwok Yu-kwong, Vice President (Research and Institutional Advancement), Prof. Alan Au Kai-ming, Vice President (Strategic Initiatives), Ms Zenobia Chia Hoi-ka, Director of Development and Alumni Affairs, and Dr Bryan Chiu Wei-sheng, Head of Management & Strategy at the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration.

During the visit, the delegation visited the Higher Education Press where they met with Mr Liu Chao, President of the Higher Education Press, Ms Zhang Lina, Vice President, and their team. The two sides provided detailed overviews of their respective developments and engaged in in-depth discussions on a range of topics, including digital transformation in education, enhancement of teacher capacity, and the joint development of teaching materials. The meetings resulted in a preliminary consensus on cooperation, laying a solid foundation for deeper collaboration in the future.

The delegation was also invited to visit two higher education institutions specialising in sports education and research — Beijing Sport University and Capital University of Physical Education and Sports. At Beijing Sport University, they toured several national-level training facilities and cutting-edge research laboratories. At Capital University of Physical Education and Sports, the delegation explored the Olympic Education Museum and several specialised research centres dedicated to advanced sports science, immersing themselves in the vibrant Olympic culture.

The delegation held in in-depth discussions with the management and relevant departments of both institutions. They exchanged views on topics such as sports management, talent development, and student and faculty exchange opportunities between Hong Kong and Beijing. They also explored opportunities for future collaboration.

During their visit to Peking University's School of Nursing, the delegation toured advanced teaching facilities and training sites. Prof. Janet Wong Yuen-ha, Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences at HKMU, participated virtually, presenting a comprehensive overview of the University's recent achievements in nursing education and applied research. The two parties engaged in meaningful discussions and exchanges.

Looking ahead, HKMU will continue to strengthen collaboration and exchanges with various mainland partners, actively contribute to Hong Kong's development as an international hub for post-secondary education and support the national goal of establishing China as a leading country in education.
