Vicky Chen Linying, 2023 graduate of the BBA (Hons) in Global Marketing and Supply Chain Management programme, won the Hong Kong Institute of Marketing (HKIM) Marketing Graduates of the Year 2023 Award (HKIM MGA). HKIM MGA aims to recognise the excellent academic achievements of full-time Year 4 marketing students in tertiary institutions.  The awardees receive a HKIM MGA scholarship award of HK$5,000 each.

CHAN Yu Ching, 2023 graduate of the BBA (Hons) in Real Estate and Facilities Management programme, received the Best Student Award 2022/2023 from the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Asian Pacific Branch. The award is an annual recognition for students in the Asia Pacific region showing outstanding academic performance in housing management courses.

Professional accounting fresh graduates Frank Mao Haoyu and Jessie Liu Jiayang were each presented with a Qualification Programme (QP) Scholarship by the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) at the QP Top Student Award and Scholarship Presentation Ceremony for the December 2022 and June 2023 Sessions. The QP Scholarships are awarded to final-year accounting students with excellent academic performance, encouraging them to pursue an internally recognised accountancy qualification. Every year, a maximum of 20 scholarships are handed out to undergraduate students all over Hong Kong.

During the same sessions, two accounting students, Kang Haoyuan and Kwong Wing-man, received an HKICPA Scholarship. They were recognised for their outstanding performance in academic studies as well as extra-curricular activities, and will be taking the QP as the first professional accounting examination after graduation.

Cyberport University Partnership Programme (CUPP) 2023

B&A students teamed up for the “Cyberport University Partnership Programme (CUPP) 2023”. Their team, “WILD”, is honoured to be one of 10 winning teams. They won a funding of HK$100,000 from Cyberport Creative Micro Fund (CCMF), which would help the team realise their entrepreneurship dream.

This year, the 20 CUPP finalist teams were formed by 66 students from 9 local universities. Each team had to submit a FinTech-related business proposal. B&A student team “WILD” joined students from other universities, attended a total of 138-hour training workshops and joined the 5-day “Entrepreneurship Bootcamp” organised at Cambridge Judge Business School of the University of Cambridge.

Competing against nine teams from six local universities, a team of four HKMU students is selected as one of the two winning teams in the “Swire Properties Placemaking Academy 2023” with their creative proposal for the “White Christmas Street Fair”.

During the Academy's final judging session, the HKMU team impressed the judges with their abilities, professionalism, creativity and working intensity during a 7-minute presentation and a challenging Q&A session.

Taking place at Taikoo Place every December, the “White Christmas Street Fair” is an annual signature festive event curated by Swire Properties. The winning teams will receive a 6-month paid apprenticeship which will offer them professional guidance and opportunities to execute their original ideas for this year's “White Christmas Street Fair” to engage the community.

HSBC/HKU Hong Kong Business Case Competition 2023

A team of four B&A students stood out from nine local university teams and won the 2nd runner-up in the “HSBC/HKU Hong Kong Business Case Competition 2023”. The competition challenged finalists to formulate a marketing proposal for a Hong Kong-based tourbillion watch company within three hours, followed by a presentation and Q&A session from judges. The excellent analytical and planning skills as well as outstanding presentation and answering techniques of the HKMU team were recognised by the judges. With consistent stand-out performance, HKMU business student teams were ranked among the top three of the competition in the recent three years.

A team of five B&A students won the championship at the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in Hong Kong (CILTHK) Student Day 2023, which is an annual event organised by CILTHK to deepen students' understanding of the local logistics industry through case study competition. The event took place on 11 March 2023 at the University of Hong Kong. B&A student team gave a remarkable performance in their 10-minute presentation: “Discuss the factors leading to increasing importance of cyber security and risk management in international shipping. Is Hong Kong ready to manage cyber security risks in the shipping context?” The first and second runner-up went to The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong and The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Maisy Ng Hoi Lam, graduate of BBA (Hons) in Professional Accounting, was one of the 2021-22 CPA Australia Distinction Award Winners. The CPA Australia Distinction Award is an annual scholarship that recognises top graduates from local undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for their outstanding academic performance.

Hong Kong Outstanding Service Award for Tertiary Students 2021/2022

Chui Shing-hang (Hotel and Sustainable Tourism Management Student)

Year 4 student Ryan Chui Shing-hang (BBA(Hons) in Hotel and Sustainable Tourism Management) was selected as one of the 20 recipients of the 31st Hong Kong Outstanding Service Award for Tertiary Students in recognition of his contribution to society. Along with other awardees, Ryan previously organised a social service project for SEN (special education needs) students and their parents.

Organised by the Hong Kong Outstanding Tertiary Students' Service Association, Hong Kong Outstanding Service Award for Tertiary Students aims to unite tertiary students in Hong Kong and give back to society. Since its establishment in 1991, over 500 tertiary students have been awarded.

Citi-HKCSS Community Intern Program 2022

Year 2 student Natalie Chong Ling-hei (BBA(Hons) in Professional Accounting) participated in the Citi-HKCSS Community Intern Program 2022 and worked as intern at the social enterprise Silence. Natalie assisted in organising various activities such as food recycle campaign and talks for people with hearing disorder. Her outstanding performance and contribution to the organisation were recognised and was awarded the Award for Excellence.

Established in 2010, the Citi-HKCSS Community Intern Program aims at inspiring Hong Kong university students majoring in business studies to contribute their knowledge and expertise to non-profit organisations through internship. The ultimate goal is to cultivate their concept of corporate social responsibility and nurture these future business leaders with a heart to care for society.

Four students from the accounting programmes of Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration were awarded the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA) Qualification Programme (QP) awards and scholarships recently. Among them, part-time student Lau Tsz-ki Jacqueline received the Silver Award (BDO Prize) of QP Capstone Examination (December 2021 Session), while full-time student Lam Chak-man was awarded the QP Scholarship 2022. In addition, Jiang Yurong and Pang Ling-lung were granted the HKICPA Scholarship 2021-22.

Three award recipients attended the QP Top Student Award and Scholarship Presentation Ceremony organised by the HKICPA at the end of September to share their joy with other award-winning students.

Lai Tsz Leung, graduate of Bachelor of Sports and Recreation Management with Honours, and Nimisha Haresh Vasandani, graduate of BBA (Hons) in Financial Technology and Innovation have been awarded scholarships under the HSBC Scholarship Scheme in 2022 for their outstanding academic performance and well-rounded development. The scholarships are established to nurture tertiary students to become future pillars of society and to enrich the talent pool of Hong Kong. Apart from scholarships, awardees will also be offered mentorship programme, learning sessions and networking opportunities to broaden their horizons and network.

The Taxation Institute of Hong Kong – Tax Debate Competition 2022

A team of four Year 3 and 4 students from HKMU Professional Accounting programme participated in the 6th Tax Debate Competition 2022 organized by the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong. In the preliminary round held in late May, HKMU team debated with teams from other local institutions in Hong Kong on the taxation topic set by the Institute. HKMU representatives entered the final round held on 6 May and won the second runner-up prize and Best Team Spirit Award with their sound taxation knowledge, convincing arguments and good team spirit.

The Tax Debate Competition aims to enhance students' knowledge and interest in the taxation topics, and to encourage them to develop their career in the industry.

BDO Best Intern Scholarship Contest 2022

Year 3 accounting student Isabella Zhang won the Championship in the 2022 BDO Best Intern Scholarship Contest. She will receive $10,000 cash and return offer. BDO has granted 10 spring internship positions to our accounting students this year.

Four HKMU business administration students teamed up to participate in the “HSBC/HKU Hong Kong Business Case Competition 2022”. With their innovative ideas, excellent presentation skills and outstanding case analysis, the HKMU team stood out among the nine teams from other local universities and won the second runner-up. 

The HSBC/HKU Hong Kong Business Case Competition aims to nurture future business leaders by enhancing university students' business skills and global perspectives. In the final round, participating teams were required to propose an appropriate strategy for a local education technology company to expand into the Indonesian market. The teams were given six hours to study the business case and prepare a slide deck.  Each team then presented their ideas to a panel of judges composed of the management of HSBC and other companies, and answered their questions.

Three students of the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration and a student of the School of Science and Technology from HKMU formed a team 'Finvictus' to join the 'Cyberport University Partnership Programme (CUPP) 2021-2022'. After rounds of interview, the team was successfully admitted to the second stage of the Programme and presented their idea on the Demo Day held in February. Participating teams were expected to build FinTech projects with components in AI, Blockchain and Cybersecurity. Eventually, Finvictus was selected as one of the winning teams and was granted HK$100,000 by Cyberport Creative Micro Fund to implement their project in the coming six months.

Zoe Chan Tsz Sheung, student of the Bachelor of International Hospitality and Attractions Management with Honours programme, is one of the eight HKMU students awarded with the scholarship in the Link University Scholarship 2021/22. The Scholarship was set up to encourage local students who are the first among three generations in their families to attend university in Hong Kong.

Five HKMU year 3 students from the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration teamed up to participate in the “HKGCC Business Case Competition 2021” earlier. They were required to submit a proposal to help an international logistics company reduce carbon emission. After rounds of selection, the team stood out from other tertiary teams and was selected as one of the three finalists. They finally won the first runner-up, which comes with a prize of HKD 20,000, a summer internship interview opportunity, and a one-year HKGCC Student Associate Membership.

“HKGCC Business Case Competition” is one of the largest business case competitions in Hong Kong. It aims to cultivate future creative business leaders by providing a platform for students to apply the knowledge they have learnt in class and to experience how to solve real business cases.

HKCGI Corporate Governance Paper Competition and Presentation Awards 2021

Four students from BBA (Hons) in Business Intelligence and Analytics won the first runner-up in this annual competition organised by the Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute (HKCGI). They submitted a paper on the theme “Is It Possible to Tie Governance with A Sense of Purpose Given The Myriad of Stakeholders' Interests?”. With the outstanding performance, they earned the first runner-up award in the category of “Paper Presentation Competition”.

Year 4 student CHAN Yu-mei (BBA(Hons) in Global Business and Marketing) and Year 3 student KALATHIYA Simran Sanjaybhai (BBA in International Business) have been awarded HSBC Greater Bay Area (Hong Kong) Scholarship, receiving HK$80,000 each to expand their career development and exposure in the Greater Bay Area. The outstanding performances of both students secured their place among 35 successful applicants. In addition to the scholarship, awardees will also gain invaluable access to mentorship opportunities with HSBC executives, practical career and business advice from financial leaders in the Greater Bay Area, and an opportunity to open up their social and professional network in the region.

Year 4 student LAU Yin-yi (BBA(Hons) in Professional Accounting) was named the 2021 Outstanding College Student at the inaugural Outstanding College Students Election. Organized by the Junior Chamber International Hong Kong, the Election invited 35 local tertiary education institutions to nominate students for a leadership training programme, which was designed to hone their leadership skills through a series of training camps, community service activities, corporate visits and public speaking contests. At the end of the programme, a team of independent judges selected 10 students (out of 100 nominees) who had demonstrated the most exceptional leadership qualities as the year's Outstanding College Students.

2021 Greater Bay Area Taxation Competition

A team of four students in the Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours in Professional Accounting won the first runner-up in the Greater Bay Area Taxation Competition. They were awarded with the summer internships at leading accounting firms including BDO, Deloitte, KPMG and ShineWing and a cash prize of HK$6,000.

Organized by the Taxation Institute of Hong Kong, the competition aims to enhance students' knowledge in taxation as well as facilitate the exchanges on taxation issues such as how to optimize the taxation systems and policies and strengthen the taxation cooperation in the Greater Bay Area.

Year 3 Professional Accounting student Nicole CHU Ngai Tung participated in the BDO Spring internship from February to May and won the second runner-up in the 2021 BDO Best Intern Scholarship Contest. Her outstanding performance brought her a scholarship of HK$3,000, a job shadowing opportunity with BDO senior executive, as well as a job return offer of employment in BDO upon graduation.

Four business students formed a team to compete in the HSBC/HKU Hong Kong Business Case Competition. With their excellent case analysis, outstanding presentation skills, as well as the ability to face intense questioning from the judges, the team outperformed the nine local universities and won the championship in the final round of the competition on 10 March 2021. The first runner-up and second runner-up went to The City University of Hong Kong and The Chinese University of Hong Kong respectively. The team would soon represent Hong Kong to compete in the HSBC/HKU Asia Pacific Business Case Competition 2021 against other universities from the Asia Pacific region.

The CFA Institute Research Challenge 2020

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. Students are required to work in teams to research and analyze a publicly traded company and then write a research report on the assigned company with a buy, sell, or hold recommendation.

Students of the Master of Corporate Governance programme and the Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours in Finance programme formed a team to join this challenge earlier. Their outstanding work and presentation made them stand out from different universities in Hong Kong and won the second runner-up and HK$5,000 cash prize in the competition.

Citi-HKCSS Community Intern Program 2020

Last summer, eight business students were selected to join the Citi-HKCSS Community Intern Program and worked as an intern in local non-profit organisations. Among them, year 2 student Stephanie Ching Chiu-yin from the Bachelor of International Hospitality and Attractions Management with Honours programme worked at the Employment Services Centre of Hong Kong Down Syndrome Association to help design questionnaire and make suggestions on its service. She was finally awarded the Award for Excellence in recognition of her outstanding performance and contribution to the placement organization during the internship.

ACCA x CFAI Ethics Essay Competition 2020

Year 4 Finance student Chan Ching Hsiang Adrian won the champion in the ethics essay competition jointly organized by ACCA Hong Kong and CFA Institute. The competition was open to all university students, ACCA members and CFA members. Adrian's winning paper entitled “Maintaining Confidence in Financial Markets – Importance of an Ethical Framework for MNPI Disclosures, Stock-Based Compensation and Insider Trading” would be published in the Asia-Pacific Research Exchange of CFA Institute.

The MERMC is an annual inter-varsity competition hosted by MonsoonSIM which aims to expose students to the concept of enterprise resource management through experiential games. Five A-Team students formed a team to participate in the MERMC during February and October 2020. The team was selected to the final round among the 60 teams from other local universities, and was awarded the 5th place in the competition.

HKMA Human Capital Management Society Scholarship 2019/2020

Year 4 Business Management student Chiu Man Yu Mandy competed for the HKMA Human Capital Management Society Scholarship with peers from six other local universities. Mandy won the first runner-up and is awarded with job-shadowing opportunity at Swire Beverages Ltd.

BDO Best Intern Scholarship Contest 2020

Year 3 Accounting student Chris Choi Lok Chuen won the Champion in the BDO Best Intern Scholarship Contest. He will receive $10000 cash, job shadowing with senior executive, and job return offer upon graduation. There are all together 55 spring interns working in BDO during Jan – April 2020, and 20 are from OUHK.

Year 2 International Business student Kalathiya Simran Sanjaybhai won the championship for the paper presentation among 21 teams from local universities and other institutions. The first runner-up and second runner-up were The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the City University of Hong Kong respectively.

NIBC is the first and largest investment banking competition in the world. Top business students from universities across the America, Europe, and Asia compete in NIBC with strong support from leading global investment banks and private equity firms. Out of over 500 teams at Graduate and Undergraduate (UG) level all over the world, the OUHK team was selected as one of the top 35 UG finalists to compete in the final round case competition in Vancouver, Canada. The other finalists from Hong Kong are The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

A team of four Accounting students participated in the ACCA Business Competition. After rounds of competition, the OUHK team won the Judges' Commendation Award out of over 300 teams.

Second Computational Finance Competition 2018 (22 December 2018)

Year 2 Finance student Chan Ching Hsiang teamed up with an internet technology student Chan Ka Yan in the Second Computational Finance Competition and received two awards. Among all the participants, the OUHK team has earned the largest positive profits and generated second highest risk-adjusted returns on the virtual trading platform with their algo trading software.

Year 4 students won the third prize in the in the “Entrepreneurship” section of the Challenge Cup National Competition on 26 May 2018. The winning team is invited to represent the HKSAR (1 out of 24 teams) to compete in “Chuang Qing Chun” National Competition (創青春 – 全國大學生創業大賽) in Hangzhou in November 2018.

YDC Dare to Change Business Pitch Competition 2018 (26 May 2018)

The “Dare to Change Business Pitch Competition” required participating teams to conduct a five-minute pitch of their business ideas to the judging panel. Among the 150 teams, two OU teams successfully entered the final round and were awarded a Certificate of Excellence together with nine other finalists. One of the teams “Jobegin”, even won “The Best Young Startup Award” and a cash prize of $15,000 with their outstanding presentation skills and innovative business ideas. The winning duo will be invited to join an exchange tour to Shenzhen later this year.

A group of four Year 2 business students participated in the Qualification Programme Case Analysis Competition. Altogether 300 teams joined the competition this year and the OU team was shortlisted as one of the 8 finalists to present in the Grand Final. With their outstanding performance, the team was awarded the Championship and the student Meesri Suthinan was selected as the Best Presenter. The first runner-up went to the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the second runner-up went to the University of Hong Kong.

A team of two OUHK Business students participated in the Business Case Competition and came in second among 18 universities from Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China. The champion went to The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the second runner-up went to The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Inter-University ALGO Trading Contest 2016/17

Thirteen renowned universities in Hong Kong and Mainland China were invited to join the Second Inter-University ALGO Trading Contest and more than 100 applications were received. The OUHK team won the 7th place in the Finale. The Champion Awards (Gold, Silver and Bronze) went to Tsinghua University, Fudan University and The University of Hong Kong.

Two teams of our students joined this Competition and managed to obtain excellent results. The champion team (「奇」艦店) won the “Best Online Promotion” award and “Best Booth Design” award, while the first runner-up team (E.T.) received the “Best Presentation” award.
