The Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration aims to equip students with up-to-date knowledge and skills to succeed in the ever-changing world of business. Recognizing the importance of networking in the field of business, the School has fostered close partnerships and established multi-faceted collaboration with local and overseas professional institutions. A number of professional institutions recognize our programmes, and exemptions from membership examinations are granted to graduates and students who meet certain requirements.
The School offers more than 50 programmes leading to the award of qualifications at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Most of the courses are developed locally by experienced professional consultants and academics. The course contents are specially designed to suit the business environment of Hong Kong and the Greater China region.
To extend the availability of our business-related programmes to a larger group of students and in line with our focus on blended learning, the School introduced this programme for Associate Degree and Higher Diploma graduates studying for a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management. A cohort of 40 students was admitted, who basically follow the distance learning mode, with tutorials held during the day to support their studies. On completing 40 credits in eight specified courses, they will receive an ordinary bachelor’s degree.
Given the close connection between the financial markets in mainland China and Hong Kong, this seminar, held in March 2011, looked into how the reform and opening up of the mainland’s financial markets will affect Hong Kong. The Council Chairman, Dr Eddy C Fong, who is also Chairman of the Securities and Futures Commission, was invited to speak on the topic with a special emphasis on the role that Hong Kong plays in this equation. Some 150 enthusiastic students attended the event, generating a lively dialogue on the subject.
The School is actively pursuing links with educational institutions and government agencies on the mainland to provide business training programmes. A new e-learning Master of Professional Accountancy (Chinese) programme was offered this year. Also, about 320 graduates of the Master of Business Administration and Master of Laws in Chinese Business Law programmes from nine partner institutions in the mainland attended a graduation ceremony in 2011. In conjunction with the ceremony, a series of programmes and events, including a three-day seminar, were organized.
In August 2010, a collaboration agreement was signed with the Hanyang University in Korea to provide full-time students of business programmes with opportunities to study abroad. Another similar agreement was signed with the Josai International University in Japan in December 2010.
