HKMU Entrepreneurship Day 2025

HKMU Entrepreneurship Day is one of the university’s flagship entrepreneurial events, providing a platform for aspiring entrepreneurs, potential investors, industry stakeholders, and individuals interested in startups to connect, exchange ideas, and explore collaboration opportunities in the field.

Every summer, Entrepreneurship Day features the announcement of results for MetroChallenge, an exciting annual entrepreneurship competition where winning teams each receive a HK$100,000 Implementation Fund and 10 months of incubation support. This event also highlights teams from the HKMU Startup Fund programmes.

What's more, this half-day event includes consultations, inspirational talks, and showcases of the achievements of our researchers, students, and entrepreneurial alumni. Join us to explore the vast opportunities for collaboration in entrepreneurship!

Entrepreneurship Day 2024 Highlight Video

Student Affairs Office held the second Entrepreneurship Day 2024 to provide a platform for the startup community to connect, exchange ideas and explore collaboration opportunities. It also presented nine winning teams of the 2024 MetroChallenge with an implementation fund of HK$100,000 each to execute their entrepreneurship projects.

The awardees of MetroChallenge in 2023 and 2024 and alumni also took the opportunity to demonstrate their innovative business solutions through the booths at the event.

Ms. Avigail CHOI

Founder, CEO & Data Scientist of Epigenetics AI

Avigail is a data scientist with extensive experience in AI in Medicine. She leads research in medical image analysis, precision medicine, and drug discovery. Avigail holds an M.Sc. in Computer Science from Arizona State University, USA, and a B.Sc. in Computer Science from Reichman University, Israel. 

Mr. Ming SHIN Yiu-ming

Founder & CEO of HKESE

After graduating from the business school at HKMU, Ming pursued his interests and developed his career as a web development engineer. Driven by his passion for exploring the Future of Work, he launched HKESE as a side project in 2017. Initially established as a freelance platform, HKESE has since evolved into Hong Kong’s leading next-generation recruitment platform, championing the Future of Work and Future Talents. 

Mr. Almeric LEE

Founder of AppLab Innovation Limited

Almeric is an experienced STEAM educator with a strong background in science education and curriculum design. He has participated in entrepreneurship programs, earning recognition for innovation. Almeric inspires students through hands-on STEAM learning and is dedicated to empowering the next generation of learners in Hong Kong with his passion and expertise.

Mr. Nelson Yip

Founder of Unleash Foundation

Mr. Nelson Yip devotes much of his energy to improving the lives of people with disabilities. He was one of the founders of the NGO Hong Kong Rehabilitation Power in 1995, making Hong Kong into a barrier-free international city, and he subsequently founded the Unleash Foundation in 2012 to help ethnic minorities realise their full potential.

Nelson is also a business strategy consultant to start-ups, public organisations and firms transitioning to efficient and sustainable business models. He founded the China Hong Kong Culture Exchange Association, encouraging hundreds of cultural ambassadors to embrace diversity, and discover and nurture collaboration in the Greater Bay Area, promoting shared values across cultures.

Nelson’s enthusiasm for horse-riding made him the torchbearer and first qualified representative of Hong Kong, China, in the Paralympic equestrian events at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He was awarded the Medal of Honour by the HKSAR Government for his remarkable achievements.

Mr. Forte Fung

Co-founder and CEO of MotoNerv Limited

Forte Fung is an AI entrepreneur and technology innovator with a deep-rooted passion for venture capital and blockchain research. Having contributed significantly to Hong Kong’s startup ecosystem during his tenure with the Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund, Forte has been instrumental in supporting numerous startups and fostering a vibrant entrepreneurial community.

In 2020, Forte transitioned from his role as an investor to become the founder of MotoNerv Limited. MotoNerv leverages AI to transform visual data into actionable insights, driving advancements in smart mobility and smart city technologies. The company has earned accolades and recognition internationally for its innovative solutions.

Forte’s journey also includes being a founding member of Taobao Livestreaming, a pioneering platform that blended e-commerce with livestreaming, enhancing consumer engagement and setting industry benchmarks.

Committed to continuous learning and innovation, Forte’s work is characterized by a thoughtful and strategic approach to technology and leadership. His contributions to AI and blockchain research highlight his dedication to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

Forte holds a Master of Science in Marketing from City University of Hong Kong and a Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) in Business Management from Hong Kong Metropolitan University.

Ms. Jill Kong

Co-founder of Beetales Limited

Jill Kong is the co-founder of Beetales, a social enterprise dedicated to bee conservation and sustainability. She is recognised for her commitment to preserving bee populations and promoting responsible resource usage, making a significant impact on the environment.

Her visionary approach was highlighted when she pitched at the Impact Auction during Creative Collision 2023, an event that proved to be a turning point for Beetales.

This experience led to crucial connections, particularly with the HKEX Foundation, and opened up new opportunities for her enterprise. She continues to share her insights and knowledge through various platforms.

Mr. Ivan Yong

Manager of HKMU Research Development and Consultancy Limited

Ivan is the manager of HKMU Research Development and Consultancy Limited, as well as an organisational psychologist, engineer, author, and startup angel investor.

He is the co-founder of Nanyang Angelz, an angel network focused in making impact investments into startups with vision to make the world a better place and Corporate Disruptors Forum (CDF), an international platform that engages startup and corporates in corporate innovation.

Ivan offers a unique perspective into finding the gems in startups, through his experience as a pharmaceutical production engineer in understanding technology and as an organizational psychologist in building culturally strong founding teams.

Ivan volunteers as the Head of Global Social Responsibility Initiatives with the European Mentoring & Coaching Council (EMCC) & an appointed International Partner with the World Business Angel Forum (WBAF) in 2020.

A big fan of languages, he speaks 7 languages and is a member of The International Association of Hyperpolyglots (HYPIA).
