HKMU's support to students and staff affected by the tragic fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po

The Education Bureau (EDB) of the HKSAR Government has recently released the list of designated programmes and allocation of scholarship places under the first cohort of the Hong Kong Future Talents Scholarship Scheme for Advanced Studies (FTSS) for the 2025/26 intake. HKMU secured the highest number of designated programmes and scholarship places among self-financing institutions in Hong Kong.
In last year's Policy Address, the Chief Executive announced that the Government would establish the FTSS starting in the 2025/26 academic year to encourage more local students to pursue advanced studies. Under the FTSS, up to 1,200 local students enrolling in designated taught postgraduate programmes will receive a scholarship each year. Of the 200 scholarship places allocated to the self-financing sector across 37 programmes, HKMU secured 22 programmes and 98 scholarship places, representing the largest allocation among self-financing institutions.
Prof. Reggie Kwan Ching-ping, HKMU Provost, expressed his gratitude to the Government for establishing the scholarship scheme, which facilitates Hong Kong's development in key strategic areas while catering for the diverse interests and aspirations of students. “The designated programmes align with eight 'priority areas' that are vital for Hong Kong's development,” said Prof. Kwan. “The selection of 22 of HKMU's programmes by the EDB for this scheme underscores the University's commitment to providing high-calibre taught postgraduate programmes that are closely aligned with societal needs. It also reflects our determination to nurture future talent for Hong Kong.”
Under the scheme, each awardee will receive a scholarship of up to $100,000. HKMU will select the awardees based on the principles of supporting Hong Kong's strategic development and nurturing professional talent. The University expects the awardees to apply their expertise in the identified 'priority areas' and to remain in Hong Kong or other parts of the Greater Bay Area after graduation.
