Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) has, for the first time, received the Elite Award in the “Management Trainee Programme Award” at the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management (HKIHRM) HR Excellence Awards 2025/2026. As the only higher education institution among this year's awardees, HKMU was recognised for the successful implementation of its Graduate Trainee Programme, demonstrating the University's effectiveness in formulating and executing strategic talent development initiatives, and its efforts in nurturing graduates as future leaders.

HKMU Provost Prof. Reggie Kwan Ching-ping and Vice President (Administration and Corporate Development) Prof. Charles Kwong Che-leung, together with other senior management representatives, attended the ceremony to share the joy of this achievement. The ceremony was also a satellite event of the Global Talent Summit Week organised by Hong Kong Talent Engage.

Prof. Kwong said, “This honour reflects HKMU's ongoing commitment to talent development. We strive to provide diverse learning and development opportunities for our students and graduates, enabling them to gain practical experience, broaden their horizons, and build a solid foundation for their future careers.”

Launched in 2023 as a three-year initiative, the Graduate Trainee Programme is exclusively tailored for HKMU graduates. It aims to empower their career development, strengthen the University's talent pipeline, and nurture responsible young leaders. Emphasising both structured training and real-world practice, the programme helps trainees apply their strengths in various professional fields and forge diverse career paths.

The programme recruits 20 trainees each year. In addition to gaining hands-on experience through on-the-job training, participants are involved in major University projects and activities to foster collaboration and connectivity. A structured learning plan further equips them through training in areas such as interpersonal communication and workplace compliance, helping them expand their vision and capabilities.

As the first university of applied sciences in Hong Kong, HKMU is committed to nurturing young talent and fostering an environment that empowers students and graduates to reach their full potential. The University continues to enhance students' competitiveness and support them to excel in the global job market, preparing them for future roles across various sectors.
