Prof. Janet Wong Yuen-ha, Dean and Professor of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), has been awarded the Fellowship by Examination of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). Prof. Wong was formally conferred the title during the Conferring Ceremony held in Dublin, Ireland, on 8 December 2025.

The Fellowship of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery (FFNMRCSI) is a prestigious professional qualification awarded to nurses and midwives that recognises individuals for their outstanding achievements and contributions in the field. The Faculty confers this honour upon registered professionals who have clearly articulated and expertly demonstrated their achievements, contributions and capacities across four key domains: autonomy in nursing/midwifery, professional and clinical leadership, expertise and research.

A Purposeful Evolution in Professional Growth

Reflecting on this recognition, Prof. Wong described her journey from being named a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) in 2022 to receiving the FFNMRCSI in 2025 as a purposeful evolution of her professional identity. “The FAAN honour affirmed my scholarly foundations in research and education, while the RCSI Fellowship recognises a strategic shift towards transformative leadership, including stewarding resources, developing faculty and mentoring future leaders,” she said. “These honours reflect the trust of my colleagues and mentors.”

She emphasised that her focus has shifted from the work itself to empowering the individuals who perform it. She added, “The Fellowship is not a destination, but as a call to serve more broadly, applying the leadership perspective beyond academia to strengthen the impact of nursing across healthcare systems.”

Global Recognition of Research Excellence

Prof. Wong's attainment of the Fellowship by Examination fully affirms her distinguished contributions to nursing research. A prominent scholar at HKMU, she was named among the “World's Top 2% Most-Cited Scientists” in the field of nursing according to research by Stanford University in 2025. Her principal research areas cover health inequalities and vulnerabilities, including intimate partner violence, risky sexual behaviours, and ethnic and sexual minorities.

Prof. Wong is also actively engaged in public affairs. She currently serves as a member of the Hospital Authority, the Hospital Governing Committee of North Lantau Hospital, and the Education Committee of the Nursing Council of Hong Kong.
