Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) successfully hosted its annual “HKMU Homecoming Day 2025” on 7 June (Saturday). Under the theme “Connect ‧ Embrace”, the event focused on “connecting” alumni, staff and students with the University and “embracing” their return to campus. Approximately 320 alumni, staff and students, along with their families and friends, gathered to celebrate HKMU's latest developments and achievements through a series of engaging guided tours and workshops.
The kick-off ceremony was held in the Agile Sports Hall on the Jockey Club Campus. Prof. Ricky Kwok Yu-kwong, Vice President (Research and Institutional Advancement), delivered the welcoming remarks, highlighting HKMU's commitment to health. “As the first university of applied sciences in Hong Kong, HKMU is dedicated to cultivating professionals in health-related fields,” he said. “For example, many programmes in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, as well as the sports and recreation management programme in the Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration, nurture a significant number of talents who contribute to society every year. We also prioritise student well-being by implementing a mental health enhancement programme to establish a comprehensive safety net on campus. Let's enjoy today's event and join hands to build a healthy and vibrant HKMU community!”
Mr Jet Chou Sai-kit, President of the HKMU Alumni Association (HKMUAA), shared the fruitful achievements of the Association since its establishment nearly three years ago. These include organising popular events such as “Ten Outstanding Young Persons” sharing sessions, workshops and alumni movie days. He encouraged alumni to stay connected with the development of their alma mater, emphasising that their steadfast support is a vital force propelling the University towards a successful future.
The ceremony was officiated by Prof. Kwok, Mr Chou, Ms Zenobia Chia Hoi-ka, Director of Development and Alumni Affairs, and Ms Yvonne Cheung, Director of Human Resources. HKMU management, including Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing, President; Prof. Reggie Kwan Ching-ping, Provost; Prof. Charles Kwong Che-leung, Vice President (Administration and Corporate Development); and Prof. Alan Au Kai-ming, Vice President (Strategic Planning), also attended the event and participated in the guided tours and workshops organised by multiple schools and departments.
The Homecoming Day featured several workshops led by alumni. Notably, the “Lip Balm DIY Workshop and Urban Beekeeping Sharing” was hosted by alumna Ms Jill Kong Pui-wa, a graduate of the Bachelor of Science with Honours in Environmental Science and Green Management. During the workshop, she debunked myths about bees and highlighted their importance in local biodiversity. “My learning journey at HKMU inspired me to devote myself to conservation work and to co-found a social enterprise, called 'Beetales',” she said. “I have remained closely connected with my alma mater since graduating. For example, two HKMU students will soon be interning at Beetales. I hope my younger peers will discover their passion, guiding them toward a fulfilling career.”
Many alumni attended the event with their families to enjoy a joyful day on campus. Mr and Mrs Ho, who met at work and later pursued further studies together at HKMU, returned to the campus with their two young sons for quality family time. Alumna Ms Dou, who currently works in Shenzhen, made a special trip back to the University to reunite with former classmates. “The workshop reminded me of my time in university,” she said, “reliving the feeling of listening so attentively in class!”
