Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) successfully held its Career Fair 2026 from 24 to 26 March. Themed “Bridging HKMU Talent and Tomorrow's Opportunities”, the event attracted nearly 130 organisations from 30 industry categories, offering over 2,700 job vacancies and internship opportunities to assist students in their career planning and workplace preparation.

During the fair, HKMU announced the launch of the “Career Competency Shadowing Programme”, in collaboration with the Golden Age Foundation, demonstrating HKMU's commitment as a university of applied sciences to nurturing talent and professionals with applied skills. The first cohort will focus on opportunities in the “silver economy”. From mid-May to late June this year, students can participate in a five-day workplace experience to gain first-hand insights into the operations of various “silver economy”-related industries. Participating organisations cover sectors such as healthcare, technology, logistics, finance and food science.

The programme will pair students with experienced mentors. In addition to completing work tasks at partnering organisations and gaining an in-depth understanding of real workplace environments, students will have opportunities to exchange views on career planning with their mentors, reflect on whether their interests and abilities are suited to the relevant industries, and clarify their future career paths.

Leveraging UAS advantages to foster industry-education collaboration

Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing, HKMU President, expressed his gratitude to the participating employers for their robust support. “The diversity of positions and industries offered at this fair aligns perfectly with HKMU's positioning as a university of applied sciences,” he said. “We firmly believe in the equal importance of theory and practice and are committed to nurturing outstanding talent with professional skills, high adaptability and problem-solving abilities.”

“We are very grateful to the Golden Age Foundation for leveraging its extensive cross-sector network and innovative mentorship model, which allows experienced mentors to pass on their years of workplace experience and guide our students,” said Prof. Ricky Kwok Yu-kwong, HKMU Vice President (Research and Institutional Advancement). He expressed his expectation that the students would be inspired by their mentors, gain insights into workplace realities and industry requirements early on, and develop the skills needed to collaborate with colleagues from different generations.

The three-day fair featured daily themes: “Business & Management”, covering accounting, banking, hospitality and property management; “Engineering, Science & Technology / Outbound Opportunities”, focusing on construction, IT and outbound career prospects in the Chinese Mainland; and “Social Impact, Government & Professional Services”, offering opportunities in public utilities, statutory bodies and NGOs.

The fair also offered a variety of on-site career support services, including complimentary CV consultations, professional portrait photography, walk-in interview opportunities and a series of informative career seminars. These services were designed to help students strengthen their job-seeking skills and gain a competitive edge, enabling them to step into the workplace with confidence and forge their ideal career paths.
