The Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration (the School) of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster talent development in the real estate industry.

The MoU was signed on 12 December 2025 by Prof. Alan Au Kai-ming, HKMU Vice President (Strategic Initiatives) and Acting Dean of the School, and Ms Ada Fung, the Chair of the RICS Hong Kong Regional Advisory Board. The MoU establishes a framework for collaboration between the two institutions to strengthen talent training for the real estate sector in Hong Kong. Key initiatives under the partnership include professional seminars, industry events, internship opportunities and academic exchanges, all aimed at equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their careers while contributing to the advancement of the industry.

A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the RICS Certificate of Accreditation to HKMU, formally recognising that the Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours in Real Estate and Surveying programme offered by HKMU has met the academic requirements for RICS accreditation. This accreditation reflects the programme's high quality and alignment with international professional standards. Graduates will benefit from a fast-track route to becoming Chartered Surveyors, enabling them to reduce the required relevant work experience from five years to two before undertaking the professional competence assessment to obtain professional qualification.

At the signing ceremony, Prof. Au highlighted, “With our programme accredited by the RICS, a globally leading professional body in the real estate industry, our goal is to offer a top-notch education and to nurture students into professionals who will contribute to society and become outstanding members of the community.”

Ms Fung added, “This MoU represents a shared vision to provide students with a strong foundation in real estate and surveying, enabling them to explore diverse pathways within the profession. RICS accreditation is a global recognition of high standards, ethics and professionalism, and we are honoured to support HKMU students in their learning journey and future careers.”
