Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) and Kai Shing Management Services Limited (Kai Shing) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 15 April to establish a strategic partnership. The MoU aims to enhance collaboration in areas such as internship programmes, entrepreneurship education and career development.
Witnessed by Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing, HKMU President, and Mr Chan Kam-fai, Managing Director of Kai Shing, the MoU was signed by Prof. Ricky Kwok Yu-kwong, HKMU Vice President (Research and Institutional Advancement), and Mr Kevin Chu, Deputy Managing Director of Kai Shing.
Under the MoU, Kai Shing will offer student internships and graduate job placements, including the KS 100 Summer Internship Programme, Mainland China Internship Programmes, the Property Officer Trainee Programme and the Technical Trainee Programme. Additionally, Kai Shing will provide training, mentorship and judges for HKMU's Hackathon and MetroChallenge. Kai Shing will also actively participate in HKMU's Career Fair and organise career talks and site visits, providing HKMU local and mainland students with related career-development support.
Addressing the event, Prof. Kwok highlighted the existing collaboration between HKMU's various schools and departments and Kai Shing, noting that in 2024/25, about 60 students from different programmes worked as interns in properties managed by the company. “'Cultivating Talent' is a key focus of HKMU's Strategic Plan 2024-2028,” he said. “As Hong Kong's first university of applied sciences, HKMU will continue to closely monitor market trends and actively offer various professional programmes to cultivate future talent.”
One of the new programmes to be launched in the 2025/26 academic year is the “Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours in Real Estate and Surveying”. Prof. Kwok expressed confidence that this collaboration would provide more students studying related fields at HKMU with internship and employment opportunities, help them deepen their professional knowledge, and strengthen the ties between the University and the industry, achieving a win-win situation.
Mr Kevin Chu, Deputy Managing Director of Kai Shing, emphasised that “talent is the cornerstone of the industry's future development” and said he looked forward to this collaboration to nurture future leaders. He said that Kai Shing would prioritise employment opportunities for HKMU graduates, enabling outstanding talent to seamlessly integrate into the industry. “We expect the creativity of HKMU students to spark more innovative solutions, advancing the property management industry,” he said. “We will harness this creativity and industry resources through various innovation and technology activities at the University to jointly explore cutting-edge solutions, such as smart property management and green buildings.”
Mr Dominique Lam Wang-tsung, who graduated from HKMU last year in the Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours in Real Estate and Facilities Management, is currently working as a Property Officer Trainee at Kai Shing.
“The professional knowledge in Deeds of Mutual Covenant, legal principles and technical skills I gained at HKMU adequately prepared me to enter the property management industry and tackle various challenges at work,” he said. Looking ahead, he aspires to advance step by step towards his goal of attaining a management position in the industry.
