Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) and The Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute (HKCGI) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance corporate governance standards in Hong Kong's sports sector.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Alan Au Kai-ming, HKMU Vice President (Strategic Initiatives), and Mr David Simmonds, President of the HKCGI, on 10 November. The MoU establishes a framework for both organisations to collaborate on initiatives that intended to strengthen sports governance in Hong Kong. HKMU will leverage its expertise in course development to support HKCGI's efforts to produce high-quality educational materials related to sports governance.

At the signing ceremony, Prof. Au said, “Both governance and sports are disciplines that have long been close to the heart of the HKMU Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration. This partnership with HKCGI brings together our shared values and complementary expertise, enabling us to work collaboratively to strengthen the foundations of sports in Hong Kong while enhancing integrity and professionalism across the sector.”

Mr Simmonds said, “HKMU is our long-term partner, and our goals in promoting good governance are closely aligned. We are delighted to collaborate with HKMU to advance sports governance, which aligns with Hong Kong's policy direction and contributes to strengthening the city's international reputation. At HKCGI, we are committed to championing better governance for a better future — across the corporate world, the public sector and the sports community.”

Through collaborative initiatives — including accredited learning pathways, the joint development of continuing professional development materials, and educational outreach programmes — HKMU's Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration and HKCGI have worked together for years to nurture generations of governance professionals and extend governance concepts and knowledge to the public. This enduring partnership stands as a testament to both organisations' shared commitment to professional development and integrity in education and industry.
