HKMU held its 36th Congregation, presenting academic awards to approximately 3,100 graduates.
Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing encourages graduates to become responsible citizens with leadership qualities.
The first day of the 36th Congregation of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) was held on 21 July.
In his address, HKMU President Prof. Paul Lam Kwan-sing congratulated the graduates on their success in completing their studies and encouraged them to step confidently into the world as capable leaders, competent professionals and responsible citizens of our community. Prof. Lam pointed out that in addition to quality education, the University provides students with a wide range of learning experiences, including service projects, innovation and entrepreneurial ventures, and student societies.
In recent years, the University has achieved outstanding results in teaching and research, earning recognition from society. Notably, it became the first university of applied sciences (UAS) in Hong Kong last year and made its debut in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings this year, securing a position in the range of 781 to 790 among approximately 1,500 universities worldwide. This achievement established HKMU as the first self-financing university and the first UAS in Hong Kong to achieve such recognition.
Prof. Lam said, “This reflects our commitment to maintaining international standards in teaching, research and faculty quality. Our achievement is further underscored by the fact that among the nine ranked institutions in Hong Kong, HKMU is ranked 6th in employment outcomes and 7th in academic reputation. This is a testament to the growing recognition of the calibre of our graduates by employers across different industries, as well as the positive perception of our institution within the global academic community.” He believes that the entire HKMU community should take pride in this.
Prof. Lam wished all the graduates a bright and promising future. He encouraged them to pursue lifelong learning and to continue to equip themselves to enter a fast-changing world filled with new challenges and opportunities, and to contribute to society.
The 36th Congregation was held over two days, during which approximately 2,100 bachelor’s degrees and over 1,000 postgraduate degrees and other academic qualifications were conferred on graduates. The second day of the Congregation, originally scheduled for 5th August, was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. Graduates will be informed of the rescheduled arrangements in due course.
