The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) Young Executives Club (YEC) visited Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) on 27 May (Tuesday). A group of young industry leaders gained first-hand insights into how HKMU nurtures future talent and explored opportunities for collaboration in student employment and entrepreneurship.
Led by YEC Chairman Mr Victor Lam Hoi-cheung, the delegation engaged in in-depth discussions with HKMU faculty and students. Prof. Ricky Kwok Yu-kwong, HKMU Vice President (Research and Institutional Advancement), emphasised HKMU's commitment to its role as a university of applied sciences by fostering closer ties with business and industry, and the integration of industry, academia and the research community. “By aligning our research with industry needs and facilitating the transformation of research and development (R&D) outcomes, we aim to create more internship and employment opportunities for our students in this rapidly evolving era, thereby enhancing our graduates' competitiveness,” said Prof. Kwok.
Mr Lam shared an inspiring message with students. He acknowledged that despite the challenges brought about by economic fluctuations and rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), the value of human contribution remains undiminished. “As long as you are willing to go the extra mile, put yourself in others' shoes and serve others wholeheartedly, these qualities remain beyond the reach of AI,” he stated.
The delegation toured the 1,700-square-foot Digital Art Laboratory on the Jockey Club Campus, which is equipped with 360- and 270-degree immersive CAVE systems to enhance students' applied learning experience. The group then proceeded to the Ho Sik Yee Library to gain insights into the forward-thinking approach to technological advancements, such as the “Libi” chatbot and AI research assistants, designed to advance the user experience in library services and resources.
HKMU consistently maintains strong partnerships with business and industry as part of its dedication to cultivating professional talent that meets market demands. Notably, the establishment of the Career Development Advisory Committee last year has enabled strategic advice from industry leaders on students' career planning, thereby providing a robust foundation for their professional advancement.
