Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) organized the third talk of the public lecture series “Talk of the Metropolis” today (22 November) with Mr Richard Lancaster, Chief Executive Officer of CLP Holdings, invited as the speaker to share his insights on the hot topic of energy transition and climate change. Titled “Race to zero: A 30-year challenge for a century-old industry”, the talk attracted over 100 participants to attend in person or via webinar.

Mr Lancaster has more than 30 years of experience in the power industry and in other industrial operations in Australia, UK and Hong Kong. He is also the Chairman of the Business Environment Council. In his talk, Mr Lancaster highlighted the key takeaways from the recent energy crisis, the increasingly frequent extreme weather events around the world as well as COP26. He also shared with the audience how CLP is playing its part in supporting the energy transition and accelerating the decarbonisation of its business in Hong Kong with the aid of technologies.

To tie in with the significant milestone of university retitling, HKMU launched in September 2021 the new public lecture series “Talk of the Metropolis” in which government officials, leaders, scholars and experts in different professions will be invited to deliver lectures on a wide range of topics, fostering the exchange of knowledge and experience. All the talks will be broadcast in the “Knowledge for All” TV programme on TVB Pearl every Sunday morning.
