Kowloon City Dress-up Programme
Historical Journey of Kowloon City – Ambassador Training Programme
Details:
The Student Affairs Office has recruited students from the School of Arts and Social Science to join two service learning programmes co-organized by the Kowloon City District Office and the Kowloon City District Council, namely the Kowloon City Dress-up Programme and the Historical Journey of Kowloon City – Ambassador Training Programme.
Forty students participated in the Kowloon City Dress-up Programme in February, which aimed to bring energy and vigour to Kowloon City through street painting. OU Students joined the street painting workshop conducted by professional artists to learn more about social artwork and painting skills. After the workshop, students were guided to complete the artwork in Kowloon City. Students not only enhanced their knowledge in art in the programme, their learning experience could also be enriched through participating in community service.
Ten students participated in the Historical Journey of Kowloon City – Ambassador Training Programme in January and they were trained to become ambassadors to assist in the historical tours and introduce the heritage of Kowloon City. Before the tours, students were required to join a series of workshop hosted by professional historian to learn the history of Kowloon City in Southern Song Dynasty, Qing Dynasty and modern times, WWII and Kai Tak Airport's history, as well as the guided tour skills. Visits to the historic sites were also arranged. Through the programme, students were able to strengthen their understanding of the historical and cultural heritages in Kowloon City. They had also enhanced their self-confidence and presentation skills through leading the guided tours.
