Research Institute for Bilingual Learning and Teaching (RIBiLT) is set up by the School of Education and Languages (E&L) of Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU), formerly The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK), in January 2016, with the Institutional Development Scheme (IDS) funding from Research Grants Council (RGC).
 
RIBiLT intends to extend the research capability of academics in the discipline of bilingual learning and teaching to facilitate research outputs in the field. Through sending academic staff to key overseas institutions with proven related research track records for academic exchange, the relevant academic staff will be exposed to state-of-the-art research activities. This aims to enhance their capability to generate key research topics relate to the unique bi-literate and trilingual situation as well as relevant pedagogic issues in Hong Kong.
 
The institute also organizes academic activities such as seminars, workshops and conference, to invite overseas scholars to share research findings and help academic staff to generate further research ideas and strategies, as well as for academics to become familiar with the latest development in the strategic research areas and to facilitate them to generate research ideas and studies.
