Joint symposium with German UAS to promote Government–Industry–University synergy to foster innovation

Following the launch of the Hong Kong's Alliance of Universities of Applied Sciences in November 2024, HKMU jointly hosted a symposium with Germany's Heilbronn University Graduate School (HUGS) on 6 December. This was our first large-scale event related to applied sciences, and the first-ever joint symposium between universities of applied sciences (UAS) from Hong Kong and overseas.

HKMU has earlier signed an MoU with HUGS, covering collaborations in areas such as development of double-degree programmes, student and academic exchanges, as well as joint teaching and research projects. The symposium, themed “Impactful Innovation and New Venture Creation: The Role of Government, Industry, and the University”, featured keynote speeches from Prof. Frederick Ma Si-hang, Chairman of FWD Group, and Prof. Dr Ralf Dillerup, Dean of HUGS, along with panel discussions. The event brought together over 100 local and overseas thought leaders, industry representatives and academics to explore how collaboration among these sectors can drive innovation and enterprise development while advancing applied sciences education.
