Academic schools & division
The OUHK has five academic schools. Among them, the School of Arts & Social Sciences, Lee Shau Kee School of Business & Administration, School of Education & Languages and School of Science & Technology offer programmes and courses at various academic levels in distance learning, full-time, part-time face-to-face and online modes of study, while the Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional & Continuing Education (LiPACE) specializes in providing professional programmes, workplace training programmes, community learning projects and short courses. In addition, the Division of Nursing & Health Studies under the School of Science & Technology provides quality nursing and healthcare education to meet society’s needs.
The School of Education & Languages is a cradle of teachers and plays an important role in nurturing Hong Kong’s future generations, contributing to initial teacher education and the professional development of teachers in Hong Kong. Over the years, the School has systematically expanded its education programmes to cover the full range of school contexts and now offers a wide spectrum of early childhood, primary and secondary teacher education programmes. It also offers undergraduate programmes in both Applied Chinese Language Studies and English Language Studies, on top of a range of language enhancement courses for the University. Currently, programmes on offer lead to the award of qualifications from the sub-degree level to the doctoral level.
The School develops programmes and courses that meet the needs of society, constantly optimizing its early childhood education programmes and launching new programmes to strengthen teachers’ training in special education. In 2015, it introduced a top-up undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education (Leadership and Special Education Needs) in line with the Government’s latest policy initiative.
In 2007, the School established the Centre for Putonghua Education & Testing, which organizes and administers the National Putonghua Proficiency Test in collaboration with the State Language & Writing Commission. It also runs short courses to prepare students to take the National Putonghua Proficiency Test.
