HKMU 35th Anniversary Council Chairman

Ir Dr Conrad Wong Tin-cheung, BBS, JP

Council Chairman

Working with HKMU has always filled me with exuberance. At 35 years old, the University is young enough to embrace new directions and mature enough to stand on a robust foundation.

We are also distinguished as a self-financing university — a model that gives us ample flexibility to respond to social needs. Over the past few decades, we have introduced many specialised academic programmes at the right time, in high demand areas, from the creative arts to business, and from the applied sciences to healthcare. This means that many of our graduates are now making a mark in important sectors across Hong Kong and beyond.

Being a self-financing university also requires that we prove our worth to the community. In addition to offering our students a valuable education, we are constantly coming up with initiatives to improve societal well-being. We have been a long-time contributor in areas such as community healthcare and inmate education, and we are striving to expand our positive influence by building meaningful partnerships with various organisations and engaging with local communities.

The most rewarding aspect of being HKMU's Council Chairman is witnessing the growth and development of our students and graduates. It makes me proud to see their creativity on display at exhibitions, hear them talk about life-changing placement and exchange experiences, and receive commendations about our graduates from employers and people they have served.

Happy 35th birthday, HKMU. May you continue to soar high into your fourth decade.
