Internship Programme

Department of Social Sciences Experiential Learning Internship Programme

Introduction

The Department of Social Sciences offers a range of internship programmes that provide students with exposure to social services design, planning, delivery, and related fields. These programmes partner with established non-governmental organizations, social enterprises, and charity groups, giving students the unique opportunity to work directly with these organizations.
The internships aim to address a variety of social issues, including poverty alleviation, community development, and healthcare access. Students actively engage in services delivery, research, and advocacy, with the ultimate goal of making a positive social impact in a rapidly-changing society facing significant challenges.
During the internship, students participate in real-life projects, initiatives, services, and campaigns led or coordinated by the partnering organizations. They work closely with experienced social workers, practitioners, and professionals who serve as their mentors throughout the internship period. This hands-on experience equips students with practical skills and theoretical knowledge, enabling them to integrate their classroom learning into real-life settings. It also helps them develop a deeper understanding of the complexities of social issues and fosters sensitivity toward the diverse needs of different social groups. Students gain insights into the opportunities and obstacles that the social welfare sector faces in serving the community and advocating for social causes.
Participating in these internship programmes provides students with valuable knowledge, expands their professional networks, and cultivates essential workplace skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability. It also offers them a glimpse into potential career pathways. These programmes prepare students to become socially conscious professionals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of others.
