Tea and Tunes Workshop: Exploring the Scent and Sound in The Dream of Red Chamber (January 16, 2025)

IHCORC presented the event 'Tea and Tunes Workshop: Exploring the Scent and Sound in The Dream of Red Chamber' (「嚐 · 畫 · 裳 · 茶 賞曲藝」—古樹茶及戲曲文化工作坊:品味《紅樓夢》中的茶與曲藝) on January 16, 2025 (Thu). This workshop aimed to provide participants with a deeper understanding of Cantonese opera and performing arts culture through the Chinese tea culture.  The event focused on the theme of tea, exploring its history, cultural significance, and its relationship with opera, particularly its role in the classic literary work Dream of the Red Chamber. Dr Kelly Chan introduced the symbolism and significance of tea in Dream of the Red Chamber, Dr Chan Chi Chun explained the relationship between teahouses and opera culture, and Ms Mandy Cheung, a national senior tea artist and evaluator, introduced the history and origin of tea and led a tea tasting demonstration and sharing session. The workshop was attended by 20 HKMU students and staff members.
