Five long-term supporters awarded
Honorary University Fellowships

Five long-standing supporters of the University were honoured at the Honorary University Fellowship Presentation Ceremony on 7 November. They were (from left) Chaifa Holdings Limited Chairman Dr John Chan Chun-tung, Amway Corporation Executive Vice President Mrs Eva Cheng Li Kam-fun, alumna Ms Connie Fong Yin-king, Kingrich Asia Holdings Limited Chairman Dr Winnie P S Ko, and Sun Hung Kai Properties (China) Limited Executive Director Mr Martin Tam Tin-fong.



Talk on drama production for creative writing and film arts students

Hong Kong Repertory Theatre Artistic Director Mr Anthony Chan came to the OUHK on 25 November to share his experience in drama production with students of the Bachelor of Arts (Hons) programme in Creative Writing and Film Arts. For more than 40 years, Mr Chan has written or adapted over 60 dramas and directed numerous productions. He has also been involved in script translation, costume design and stage management.



New Shenzhen office

The office of OUHK Consultants (Shenzhen) Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University, was relocated from SEG Plaza to Anlian Plaza. The 500-square-metre office serves as the centre for co-ordinating the University’s operations on the mainland and providing support for education, corporate training, consultancy services and the production of learning materials.


Interdepartmental Badminton Competition

An interdepartmental badminton competition was held on 16-20 November in the Multi-purpose Hall at the
Ho Man Tin Campus, as one of the highlight events of the Occupational Safety and Health Week. The competition was organized to encourage OUHK staff to exercise and pay attention to personal fitness. Dominic Pang and Daniel Wong of the Educational Technology and Publishing Unit were the winners.

18th Congregation and honorary degrees ceremony

5,467 graduates received their awards from the OUHK at the two-day Congregation ceremony held on 17-18 December at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wan Chai, raising the total number of graduates to over 60,000. Graduates of 2009 included 3,703 students in distance learning and part-time, face-to-face programmes; 1,216 full-time students; and 548 from mainland China. Presiding over the four sessions of the Congregation were Council Chairman Dr Eddy C Fong, Deputy Chairman Mr Edward Cheung, Treasurer Mr Michael Wong Yick-kam and Member Mrs Eva Cheng Li Kam-fun.


Five distinguished individuals were conferred honorary doctoral degrees. They were (from left) Playmates Holdings Limited Chairman and Executive Director Mr Thomas Chan Chun-hoo; renowned actor, director and educator Dr Chung King-fai; Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office former Deputy Director Mr Chen Zuoer; Jardine Airport Services Limited Chairman and OUHK Council former Deputy Chairman Mr Stanley Ko Kam-chuen; and Shanghai Distance Education Group President Prof. Zhang Deming.




South Korean nursing students visit OUHK

The nursing team received three professors and 30 students from the Department of Nursing, Sunlin University, South Korea, on 15 December, during which it introduced the OUHK’s nursing programmes, provided a tour of the Clinical Nursing Education Centre and discussed with the visitors the differences in nursing education between Hong Kong and South Korea. The visitors communicated with OUHK students and staff through a translator and used pens, paper, drawings and electronic dictionaries to facilitate the sharing.

Nursing students set Guinness world record

108 OUHK full-time nursing students and other participants joined forces on 24 January to set a new Guinness world record – the largest number of participants in a cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training session. This was part of the ‘CPR for All’ activity organized by the Princess Margaret Hospital and Kwai Tsing Safe Community and Healthy City Association Limited in Kwai Chung Sports Ground, at which OUHK nursing students also served as volunteers.
