Public Administration and Politics Society
inauguration and first public seminar

The newly established Public Administration and Politics Society held its inauguration ceremony and first public seminar on 3 April. Officiating at the ceremony was Mr Lam Woon-kwong, former CEO of Equestrian Events (Hong Kong) of the Games of the XXIX Olympiad Company Limited. The talk was conducted by Mrs Rita Fan, Standing Committee member of the 11th National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China. Under the topic of ‘The Relationship between Hong Kong and Mainland China in the Eyes of Rita Fan’, the former legislator warmly recalled her service for the colonial and HKSAR governments, and discussed with students the merits of different debating styles.


Talk on leadership and team building by former Police Commissioner

On 9 April, School of Arts and Social Sciences Honorary Professor and former Hong Kong Police Commissioner Mr Dick Lee shared tips with OUHK students on how to be a successful leader and build up an effective team. He highlighted six points – integrity, communication, delegation, vision, continuous learning and to be ‘seen to be leading’.

VIP Roundtable on Wine Tasting

The Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional and Continuing Education launched a series of wine education activities throughout May and June. This included radio programmes that were produced by Metro Broadcast, wine-tasting seminars, online activities, and a wine education expo. On 6 June, the OUHK hosted a VIP Roundtable on Wine Tasting, supported by the Consulate Generals of Canada, France, Italy and Spain, and the Concord Institute of Wine. Also in the VIP list were OUHK President Prof. John C Y Leong, Metro Broadcast Deputy Managing Director Mr Sung Man-hei, Quality Tourism Services Association Executive Manager Ms Cathy Yau, and renowned financial programme host Ms Agnes Wu.

New line-up for Council

Dr Eddy C Fong, the Non-Executive Chairman of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, was appointed Chairman of the OUHK Council. Mr Michael Wong Yick-kam, an Executive Director of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited, was appointed Treasurer of the Council. Dr Fong was a Member of the OUHK Council from 2003 and its Treasurer from 2004, while Mr Wong has been a Member of the OUHK Council since 2008. Mrs Eva Cheng Li Kam-fun was reappointed a member for one year from June 2009, while Prof. the Hon Patrick Lau, Mr Peter Lo and Mr Raymond R Wong were reappointed for two years. During the year, we also bade farewell to Prof. Alan Au, Dr Chan Chin-wing, Dr Cheuk Wai-hing, Dr the Hon Marvin Cheung, Mr Choi Ying-choy, Prof. John A Spinks, Mr Wong Tsz and Mr Michael Wong Wai-lun. Visit by Deputy Commissioner of the Commissioner's
Office of Foreign Ministry

Deputy Commissioner Zhan Yongxin and staff of the Commissioner’s Office of China’s Foreign Ministry in the Hong Kong SAR visited the OUHK on 26 June. They met with President Prof. John C Y Leong and the senior management team before touring the campus.
