FAQ on Course Enrolment

Details and schedules of course selection for each term will normally be announced 2–3 weeks before the corresponding application period through University email and Student Announcement.

For retake courses, students are advised to submit application during the retake application period before the term, such that if the applications are approved and enrolled, students could start the courses immediately after term start. Please refer to Retake Courses webpage.

Sometimes you may have selected a course and attempted to enroll in it, yet the enrolment may not successful for various reasons. For example, you may have added the course to enrollment shopping cart only (step 1) but not yet confirmed (step 3), or enrolment is not successful as the class is full or there is time clash in class schedule. Only successfully enrolled courses will appear on your class schedule.

You may re-try during the online course selection period. If you have encountered any technical issues during the enrolment process, you can email the screen capture to the Enrolment Team (Undergraduate) for assistance.

Many students submit enrolment request during the online course selection period or add/drop period. That means there are constant enrolment changes. A class that is full at a point may be available in the next minute. You are advised to re-try with patience during the online course selection period or add/drop period.

If you fail to self-enroll in a course/class that you prefer, you are advised to enroll in another available course/class that can meet the same requirement and continue to try swapping during the add/drop period. Otherwise, you may risk missing the required enrolment.

Please check Advice on Course Selection to see if you are assigned to self-enroll this course in the term. If you are not assigned to take this course in the term and you still want to do so, you should submit an application via Application for Add/Drop. For details, visit the Add Extra Courses webpage.

If you are assigned to self-enroll the course this term, there may still be chance that some seats have been reserved for students of specific programmes and year standings and are not made available to you. You may refer to Class Availability for All Courses for more details. In such cases, you are likely to have other course/class options. You are advised to enroll in another available course/class and continue to try swapping during the add/drop period. Otherwise, you may risk missing the required enrolment.

To be fair to other students, the University will not entertain swapping requests agreed among students themselves. Students should arrange enrolment through the designated functions during the online course selection period and add/drop period.

Add/drop requests are not processed in real time. The applications require approval by School and are subject to factors like seat availability and whether there is time clash in class schedule. Only successfully enrolled courses will appear on your class schedule.

Please refer to your Programme Requirements. If there are alternative courses to fulfill the same programme requirement, you may take the alternative course(s) instead of retaking the same course. Should there be any doubts, please consult your programme leader.

The functions are only made available to students assigned to enroll in courses in the term. If you have not been assigned to enroll in courses in the term, no access will be made available. If you wish to add courses not prescribed in the term, submit an application via Application for Add/Drop. For details, visit the Add Extra Courses webpage.

Yes. If you have been awarded 'Fail' in a full-time undergraduate course, and the course has a distance-learning counterpart, you may apply to take the distance learning counterpart instead during the retake application period or add/drop period. Your application is subject to approval by the School. Please refer to Retake Courses for details.

There could be situations in which your courses would only be enrolled after your payment for tuition fees or late payment deposit is recognized by the University:

(i) In Autumn Terms; or

(ii) If you have been de-registered and dropped from courses, and you are subsequently approved for late registration and settled the tuition fees balance.

The process is not instantaneous. Payment would normally takes a few days to be recognized by the University. And while course enrolment would be arranged as soon as possible afterwards, there could be additional factors requiring more processing time, such as study plan assignment, or availability of seats. You should only attend the designated class sections after being enrolled.

After completion of add/drop enrolment (usually by the 5th week of the term), teaching staff would be informed of the updated course enrolment records. If there are any further changes, the Course Coordinators would be updated by email.
