Extending Horizons in Post-Secondary Education

Applied degree programmes

Applied degree programmes are recognised as equal to traditional degree programmes

Applied degree programmes offered by UASs in Hong Kong will be recognised as equal to other traditional degree programmes. Undergraduate-level applied degree programmes are pitched at QF Level 5, the same as traditional bachelor's degree programmes.

Features of applied degree programmes

They support the articulation of students from different backgrounds, taking into account their relevant learning and work experience.

The programme content is industry-driven with an emphasis on work-readiness to support the development of the economy and the target industries or professions.

Through close liaison with industry, students are provided with rich internship opportunities to support the development of specific skills that meet the needs of the relevant industries or professions.

There is a strong emphasis on the engagement of employers, professional bodies and associations in the design, delivery and assessment of the programmes.

A wide range of technologies are used to promote skills training and enhance the student learning experience, enabling them to adapt to the use of relevant technologies in the workplace.

Design Features

The new campus will incorporate 4 signature design features – Sustainability, Health, Innovation and Property Technology (Prop-Tech) to establish the health-promoting environment and adopt cutting-edge technology to foster building wellness. Moreover, we are committed to sustainability practices that minimise our environmental impact. Therefore, by embracing Sustainability, Health, Innovation and Prop-Tech, our campus will be at the forefront of modern design, creating a harmonious and forward-thinking environment for all.

SUSTAINABILITY

  • Implement high-efficiency lighting fixtures and integrate lighting controls to minimise power consumption.

  • Adopt renewable energy source, such as photovoltaic panel to supplement power generation.
  • Use of water-efficiency plumbing fixtures and appliances to reduce water consumption.

  • Implement rainwater harvesting systems and greywater recycling systems to promote water conservation and sustainability.
  • Implement waste segregation and recycling program to actively promote and encourage waste recycling practices.

  • Employ careful site planning and management practices to minimise construction waste.
  • Use of sustainable and locally sourced materials for construction.

  • Minimise human exposure to potentially harmful chemicals throughout the construction and operation phases of buildings.
  • Incorporation of green spaces into the campus design to provide recreational spaces and enhance biodiversity.
  • Provide electric vehicle charging infrastructure to reduce reliance on fossil fuel and greenhouse gas emission.

  • Promote the utilization of public transportation.

HEALTH

  • Effective ventilation systems that ensure a steady supply of fresh air.

  • Air filtration systems to remove pollutants and particulates.

  • Humidity control systems to maintain optimal levels and prevent mold growth.

Air Quality

  • Water filtration systems to ensure access to clean, safe drinking water.

  • Regular testing and maintenance protocols to prevent contamination.

Water Quality

  • Introduce skylights and other architectural features to optimise the influx of natural daylight.

Natural Light

  • High-quality insulation to maintain a steady indoor temperature.

  • Advanced HVAC systems that allow for individual control over temperature and airflow.

Thermal Comfort

  • Sound-absorbing materials and layouts that minimise noise pollution.

  • Quiet zones for focused work or relaxation.

Acoustic Comfort

  • Use of low-VOC (volatile organic compounds) materials to reduce indoor air pollution.

  • Preference for natural, non-toxic, and allergen-free materials.

Materials and Products

  • Incorporation of natural elements like plants, water, and natural materials.

  • Views of nature, green spaces, and outdoor relaxation areas.

Biophilic Design

  • Design elements that encourage movement, like stairs, walking

  • On-site fitness facilities or easy access to recreational activities.

Physical Activity

  • Availability of fresh, nutritious food options in cafeterias or vending machines.

  • Accessible kitchen or dining areas to encourage home-cooked meals.

Healthy Eating

  • Furniture and workspace design that supports proper posture and reduces the risk of musculoskeletal disorders.

Ergonomics

  • Spaces for relaxation and stress reduction, such as meditation rooms or quiet spaces.

  • Design elements that promote a sense of community, like communal areas and open-plan layouts.

Mental Health

INNOVATION

  • Adopt integrated control to the classroom facilities and appliances in order to enhance the overall student experience.
  • Keep you connected and updated to the latest campus information.

  • Reserve your facilities and equipment through mobile apps.
  • Use of motion graphic to help you to navigate our campus.

  • Display real-time information to facilitate the staff and student.
  • Enhance educational experience by accessing online resource and multimedia learning material.
  • Optimise energy usage within a building by data-driven analysis on occupant usage pattern.

  • Enhance comfort and occupant satisfaction by precise control and monitoring of environmental conditions.

PROPERTY TECHNOLOGY (PROP-TECH)

  • Adoption of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality (VR & AR) offers enhanced visualization, new opportunities of safety training and risk mitigation, and wider stakeholder engagement.

VR & AR Technology

  • Implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) to increases control of the construction process and facilitate accurate planning and coordination, leading to fewer errors and reworks.

BIM Building Model

  • Use of Drone Technology for site inspections, surveying, and progress monitoring to provide real-time data and improve site safety.
