香港都会大学与香港电讯携手推动香港资讯及通讯科技业持续发展

香港都会大学(都大)科技学院与香港电讯今天(2月2日)签署合作备忘录,推动创新协作和科研及专才发展,引领香港的资讯及通讯科技业迈向可持续发展。

根据合作备忘录,双方将合作发展及提升学术和科研项目丶促进知识交流及经验分享,以及为学生的实习及事业发展提供支援与指导。

都大科技学院电子工程与计算机科学系主任及副教授熊景辉博士与香港电讯商业客户业务综合科技项目及服务高级副总裁梁永强代表双方签署合作备忘录,并由都大科技学院院长王富利教授及香港电讯商业客户业务董事总经理吴家隆见证。

王富利教授表示:「都大一直致力贡献香港的工程丶通讯科技及资讯科技的发展,设有多个不同深度和宽度的荣誉学士课程,涵盖电子及电脑工程丶电脑科学丶网路安全以及数据科学。都大每年都为社会培育出数百名专业人才,促进科技界的发展。是次与香港电讯的合作能够加强都大和香港电讯不同范畴的交流,携手建设可持续发展的智慧城市。」

吴家隆表示:「作为香港科技丶媒体及电讯的领导者,香港电讯在培育年青科技专才中担当重要的角色,待他们於专上学府毕业後能够参与企业数码转型及智慧城市发展的机会,以及拓展大湾区的视野。我们十分高兴与都大携手合作培育更多科技专才,为学生提供实战机会,以及分享香港及大湾区不同行业进行数码转型时所采用的科技及面对的挑战。我们期待与都大共同开发采用新兴技术的智能应用方案,以加速香港智慧城市的发展,及推动社会经济的可持续性发展。」

Hugo Leung Wai-yin, who graduated from his four-year programme in 2015, won the Best Paper Award for his ‘intelligent pill-dispenser’ design at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering’s International Conference on Consumer Electronics – China 2015.

The pill-dispenser alerts patients via sound and LED flashes to pre-set dosage and time intervals. Unlike units currently on the market, Hugo’s design connects to any mobile phone globally. In explaining how it works, he said: ‘There are three layers in the portable pillbox. The lowest level is a controller with various devices which can be connected to mobile phones in remote locations. Patients are alerted by a sound alarm and flashes. Should they fail to follow their prescribed regime, data can be sent via SMS to relatives and friends for follow up.’ The pill-dispenser has four medicine slots, plus a back-up with a LED alert, topped by a 500ml water bottle. It took Hugo three months of research and coding to complete his design, but he feels it was worth all his time and effort.

Hugo’s public examination results were disappointing and he was at a loss about his future before enrolling at the OUHK, which he now realizes was a major turning point in his life. He is grateful for the OUHK’s learning environment, its industry links and the positive guidance and encouragement from his teachers. The University is now exploring the commercial potential of his design with a pharmaceutical company. He hopes that this will benefit the elderly and chronically ill, as well as the society at large.

Soon after completing his studies, Hugo joined an automation technology company as an assistant engineer. He is responsible for the design and development of automation devices. The target is to minimize human labor and increase the quality of products. He is developing products which are used in various sections, including healthcare, manufacturing and consumer electronics.
