About the programme

Certificate in Education (CEDU) was designed to develop the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes required for a professionally qualified English/Chinese secondary/primary school teacher.
This is a conversion programme specially designed for locally qualified teachers who wish to be ‘retrained’ for teaching English or Chinese.

Programme requirements

Entry requirements

A student shall normally:

  • hold a local PGDE/PCEd/BEd or equivalent;
  • be currently employed on a full-time and entire academic year basis by a secondary or primary school; and
  • be teaching English or Chinese in a secondary or primary school in Hong Kong for a minimum of five periods per week/cycle.

You should have the consent of the principal of your school for classroom visits by University staff (your application must be accompanied by the completed consent letter).

Eligibility for the award:

Students are required to successfully complete 12 credit-units of courses from the courses specified for the chosen strand as indicated in Table 1.

^ These courses include teaching practicum as an integral part of the assessment.

Recognition:
  • CEDU graduates will be considered to have a qualification equivalent to the HKMU’s PGDE majoring in the relevant teaching subject.
  • The four language strands of the CEDU are recognized by the EDB as language major teacher training programmes.
