I'm delighted to share with you the spirit and values of our School. We firmly believe that learning has the power to change lives, and that university is a place where students can explore who they are, develop their strengths, and chart their own future.
The School of Education and Languages is formed by two academic units—the Department of Education and the Department of Applied Language Studies. Although the two departments focus on different areas, we share a core belief: Education can create real and lasting impact.
As the only self-financed higher education institution in Hong Kong that provides teacher training across early childhood, primary, and secondary levels, we have always been committed to advancing education with professionalism and passion. We hope that when our students graduate, they not only possess a solid academic foundation, but also have the courage, empathy, and vision to care for the people around them, break through limitations, and pursue greater goals.
Beyond classroom learning, we strive to enrich our students' educational experience and help them build a truly meaningful and memorable learning journey. We offer a wide range of experiential learning opportunities—internships, immersion programmes, exchange tours, trilingual public speaking events, and more—encouraging students to step outside the classroom and broaden their horizons. Every experience helps students learn a bit more about the world, and also a bit more about themselves.

Another core strength of our School is our academic team. Our scholars have deep teaching and research experience in language education, special educational needs, and creative pedagogies. They generously devote their time and energy to guiding students, offering patient and professional support to help each student find their direction and develop their own values and abilities.
The HKMU motto—“Transcendence through Erudition and Renewal” (勵學致遠 敬慎日新)—reminds us that education is not something achieved overnight, but a continuous, day-by-day journey. Guided by the University's core values of fairness, integrity, perseverance, and innovation, we are committed to fostering a learning environment where students feel safe to explore, confident to ask questions, and brave enough to challenge themselves.
