Funding Support for Overseas Study Tours under the Undergraduate Global Immersion Programme (UG-GIP)

To ease the financial burden for participating in the UG-GIP overseas study tours, eligible students can apply for the following four funding schemes offered by the School and the Government.

1. Sub-scheme of All-round Student Award (S-ASA)

Value of Award:

A fixed grant of HKD 8,000

Eligibility:
  • Applicants should be full-time undergraduate students who will join the UG-GIP overseas study tours.
  • Students can only receive S-ASA ONCE throughout their undergraduate studies.
  • If a student receives ASA, S-ASA, and SSE for the same activity at the same time, only the highest award or subsidy amount will be granted.

Application Procedure:

  • Students will receive an application email from the School in November.
  • Interested students are required to submit the application by the due date. Late or incomplete applications may NOT be considered.

Announcement of Results:

Applicants will normally receive their application results in April.

Disbursement Process:
  • The award money will be disbursed directly to awardees prior to their departure for the study tour.
  • Before disbursement, the awardees must submit all required documents, such as flight tickets and visa approval (if necessary), and complete the payment to the School.

2. All-round Student Award (ASA)

Value of Award:

A maximum of 50% of the total amount for accommodation, airfare (based on the cost of the accompanying staff's economy-class ticket) and meal allowance

Eligibility:

  • Applicants should be full-time undergraduate students who will join the UG-GIP overseas study tours.
  • Applicants must fulfil both academic AND non-academic performance requirements listed below.

(a)  Academic Attainment

  • Year 1/Year 2 Entry Students: A Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above out of 4.0 (or 3.22 out of 4.30) at the time of application
  • Year 3 Entry Students: Satisfactory academic results during post-secondary education (including public examinations)

(b)  Non-Academic Experiences

  • These experiences include awards received, extra-curricular activities, working experience, and voluntary services.
  • Students can only receive ASA ONCE throughout their undergraduate studies.
  • If a student receives ASA, S-ASA, and SSE for the same activity at the same time, only the highest award or subsidy amount will be granted.

Application Procedure:

  • Students will receive an application email from the School in November.
  • A follow-up email will be sent in January/February.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend and pass the interview. During the interview, applicants shall provide supporting documents of their academic and non-academic performance.
  • Interested students are required to submit the application by the due date. Late or incomplete applications may NOT be considered.

Announcement of Results:

Applicants will normally receive their application results in April.

Disbursement Process:

  • Award money will be disbursed directly to the awardees after their successful completion of the study tour.
  • Before disbursement, the awardees must submit all required documents, such as flight tickets and visa approval (if necessary), and complete the payment to the School.

3. Reaching Out Award (ROA)

Value of Award:

HKD 10,000

  • Students will receive an application email in November from the School.
  • Interested students are required to submit the application along with supporting documents (if needed) by the due date. Late or incomplete applications may NOT be considered.

4. Scheme for Subsidy on Exchange (SSE)

Value of Award:

A maximum of HK$14,000 (Subject to the destination, duration of the tour, and the level of student finance (FASP%) approved by the Government

Application Procedure:

  • Students will receive an application email in November from the School.
  • Interested students are required to submit the application and give consent for the University to check their FASP application result/CSSA status by the School's deadline. Late or incomplete applications may NOT be considered.
