Abstract

David Der-wei Wang describes Eileen Chang's creation as an 'impulse to enhance and embellish', forming a narratology of 'repetition', 'involution', and 'derivation'. This is not only a hallmark of Eileen Chang's lifelong work but also a reason why others imitate her, making Chang's style a subtle thread within the fictional context of Cross-Strait and Three Regions. Therefore, deconstructing Eileen Chang's sophisticated and worldly understanding and how she presents it through the popular genre is particularly important because these can be transformed into a timeless formula that transcends eras and situations, generating charming expression of lyrical literature. This lecture will explore Eileen Chang's ingenuity in character configuration and interaction through aspects of clothing, body, and dialogue, guiding attendants to immerse themselves in the creative subject and then expand the creative realm.
