School of Arts and Social Sciences Programmes & Courses Taught Postgraduate Programmes Master of Arts in Applied Cultural Studies

Overview

  • The programme will introduce diverse and dynamic topics, concepts, and theories in cultural studies, enabling postgraduate students to explore and expound thinking around changing local and global cultures and capture new cultural challenges and cultural phenomena across different cultural landscapes in contemporary societies.
  • Following a comprehensive interdisciplinary teaching and learning approach, the programme will cultivate in students the ability to understand the political perspectives of various cultures through training in critical thinking that spans the fields of A.I. and digital narratives, cultural diplomacy, cultural economy and gender studies, curatorship and moving images, gaming and care culture, global storytelling, and music and textual culture.
  • In consideration of the prospective students' national and international background, the programme intends to broaden the students' knowledge base through Asian Film Festivals' networks, creative projects, field trips, internships, and the organisation of research seminars that will be given by artists, cultural experts and scholars.
The programme follows the university's applied sciences approach to develop an interdisciplinary curriculum for students at the School of Arts and Social Sciences. Thus, this curriculum combines theories and practices and closely collaborates with industry and professional skills sectors. More crucially, this programme will be the first applied cultural studies programme in Hong Kong.
